For those that ordered 21" or 22" wheels and tire options
Since I ordered my G05 with the 1PA 22" set up, I've started thinking about down the road and what my options are for tire replacements. Since the only tire available for the 22" wheel is the Pirelli P ZERO (PZ4)
non run flat and a UTQG of 280 and a cost of $1800, I figure they won't last long. Even going to a 285/325 set up doesn't give you any options. To step down to a 21" wheel, Tire Rack has zero tires for BMW OEM tire sizes. Which leaves the 20" wheel option and there you have many tires to choose from, but you don't have a staggered set up. So for those that have 21's or 22's what are your thoughts on Pirelli only tires? I'd much rather have a Michelin or Conti long term.

I was wondering about this as well. Seems this will force people in colder climates to buy a full blown tire/wheel setup for winter. Not good as this may be deal breaker for me. I always put Conti DWS 20 inch staggered M-Sport on the vehicle for year round. Do not like RFT. Interested to see if a good all season tire comes to market.

I have had Pirelli P Zeroes on my Audi A6 for the past 4 years, size 255/35 R20. I was very pleased to see the Audi come with them as an OEM tire when new as I had horrible experiences with Conti Sport Contact 3s on my B8 S4, which I promptly replaced with Pilot Super Sports at 7k miles. I replaced the original set of Pirellis on the A6 at 28k miles as they were getting noisy, but still had plenty of tread life. Went with A0 OEM 255/35 R20 P Zeroes Absolutely no complaints. They far exceeded my expectations during a winter in Asheville, providing decent traction in both snow and on ice. This will be my first time having run-flats, and if the extra noise and ride quality is not just an absolute nuisance, I'll gladly stay with Pirellis again.

I do have to wonder, why staggards would be useful on an AWD SUV.
(and as an owner in an arctic climate, I'm definitely in need of all weather capability) |

No way I will pay that much. I can get stuff of eBay way cheaper.

I have 22s coming on my car, and I'm gettting concerned about this too.
I reached out to a couple of tire shops and it seems like another set of rims is the only way to go. I'll probably do the square setup on 20s. Annoying because I hate the look of skinny rear tires. |

BMW will probably release more options. For the F15 you could get a winter set on 20" with a 275/315 staggered setup. My dealer offered to put winter tires on the 22" wheels ( if no other set is available by FEB when mine arrives) and said I could wait a bit longer so they can order a set of summer wheels, no rubbers, later in 2019. There's no discussion here about the need to use 22's in winter time, it's more the look of the car that would drive this decision. Can't also complain about nasty weather in here during the cold season.

So now that deliveries are occurring anybody with 22's have an all-season/winter non-RFT tire for the cold weather coming? On my E70 and F15 M-sports with 20's I just ran Conti DWS. Never an issue on previous gens.

Before I moved to FL from MA I was used to storms that dropped 20" and driving in snow/slush for days at a time 'till the plows got all the secondary roads cleared up. What do you mean by traction on ice? Again, back in MA I've had my car slide down the driveway on its own after an ice storm. Except for one time when I had studded tires, I've never had any luck with keeping control when I ran into ice. We had P-Zero's on our X3. Though I never drove it in the snow just looking at the treads I can't believe I would have lived through an MA winter with them. |

Anyone end up finding a set of 20's with Winter Tires? I just ordered my xDrive40i with 22's and being in Nebraska know the summer's just won't cut it.

Anyone seen this?
https://www.shopbmwusa.com/Product/8...EEL---TIRE-SET I don't really understand it, because it says 19" and also 21"? I see the tire sizes for the 21" tires match up on tirerack and are available. Any drawbacks to running this? Thinking of purchasing a X5 with the 21's, but need to sort out this tire situation before ordering. |
