Pulled over for loud exhaust

I got pulled over yesterday and the officer gave me a 27151(a) VC - Modified Exhaust and 5200(a)cvc - Front plate ticket. I'm running a CTS intake, Fabspeed catted sport cat and resonator delete, the car in conform mode with flap closed are not that loud. The front license plate will be an easy fix, but don't wanna deal with the catted downpipe cause it's a nightmare to reinstall the stock dp. What should I do before I take the car to the state referee.

I'd say leave cat and take off the res delete. See if you can slide by. Take the intake off too.

Am I able to wire back the stock resonator to the stock exhaust? Also, do you think the ref will notice any smell from the dp? Or they just check the decibel of the exhaust? Thanks!!

the cat is one of the easiest things to do. not sure how it's a nightmare? you'll need to put all the stock parts back to pass the ref.

I understand your point. I don't agree.. driving in snow is a magical experience in these cars.

Just seems like you guys put up with so much shit... not to mention 91 fuel.

Noooo thanks...

Do you think I can just put the dp back to stock and leave the res resonator delete on the car?

Did you actually get a ref? If not, go to a regular police station ( preferably somewhere in orange county, or say Beverly hills, or Augora hills ) and have them sign off.

Since they didn't write you up for the intake you could theoretically not need to pop the hood, if they did cite you for the sport cat ( tampering with emissions equipment ) that is automatic state ref and you will need to go full stock with stock tune and ref it.

Resonator delete is moot. MPE does not come with a resonator and my car came from factory like that, and I too got a "modified" exhaust ticket. but was easily signed off.

It will be blatantly obvious if it was a ref ticket. There will be a big white sticker that says state referee on the ticket.

Take it from a guy who had to go through the state referee process back in the day. Return everything to stock as they measure and inspect thoroughly. They'll also decibel test your car at 4500 rpm. You'll need to be below 95dba. As for the cat, you'll definitely want the stock back on for now. They'll also do an emissions test which may or may not pass with the Fabspeed. For the record I had one on my M235i, but never did an emissions test. Just playing that one cautiously as you do not want an emissions modification ticket.

In the end my out of pocket was $38 bucks because everything got dismissed, but it was a pain in the ass. I think the only reason I had to do the state referee thing was because I was an asshole to the cop.

1. Housing market - yeah everyone wants to live here, supply/demand. If this was Ohio homes would be 30k for a mansion.
2. I don't live in the woods, doesn't affect me.
3. How are those hurricanes and tornadoes treating ya? I'll take earthquakes over tsunamis
4. How does that affect me? I don't live on welfare
5. Good, I don't want to die of pollution.
6. All major metropolitan cities suffer this.
7. Same as 6?
8. Everyone wants to live here and we need to maintain the infrastructure

Maybe I just can't get over the fact that California is where car mod's became a thing, and they were fantastic at it ...and now the state does everything in their power to ruin that. "50 State Legal".. just because of Cali.

Take that up with your state. We’ll handle ours. Thanks.
