Unhappy My stereo went haywire without any power today!

I was lifting weights in my garage today when an incredibly loud sound started coming from inside my car.(E92 MT enhanced premium sound) It sounded as if all of the airbags where deploying at the same time. I cautiously opened the drivers side door not knowing for sure what was going on(it was loud as hell). Thankfully the airbags had not deployed but the driver side door speaker was at FULL VOLUME all static. I can't begin to tell you how loud it was - it was painful on the ears!
The key was not even in the car. I threw in the key. Nothing. I started the car. Nothing. I switched from radio to CD to Ipod. Nothing. Shut it down, started it. Nothing but incredibly LOUD static. I contemplated disconnecting the battery. I went to call BMW NA and it stopped. Five minutes of unbelievably loud static coming out of 1 speaker and than back to normal. Has anyone had a similar experience?

Yes I drove it and it's fine. I immediately thought that the speaker was blown because it was static at FULL VOLUME. But everything seems to be back to normal and the stereo sounds fine.

Finally!!! I am sorry to hear you had the problem but it has happened to me as well. BMW and have been trying to figure out what is going on. There are no errors in the system and we can't figure out how to reproduce.

Any extra details you can provide on what settings or situations might have happened to cause this would be very appreciated.

Here is my setup.

2008 M3 Coupe with Premium sound and iDrive.

iPod adaptor with iPod connected.

iPhone connected via Bluetooth.

The two times it happened in my case seemed to occur when also using the Parked Ventilation timer. But that could be coincidence.

In my case, twice I have gotten in the car and started it, but no sound will occur at all. In the case where the loud blaring sound happened, I had gotten in the car to leave work, no sound would play in the car, iDrive was sluggish, and the voice recognition system would not work. After coming home, and turning the car off, a couple of minutes later the blaring high pitched sound started. Occasionally the radio would kick in a full volume for a second or two, then back to the tone. Finally after several minutes it stopped.

If anyone else has this issue, please let me know.

Thanks in advance.

Happened to my ex-2002 X5 4.4....only once though. Must be the ghosts of Gustav Flugmaschinefabrik and Karl Friedrich Rapp (founders of BMW) haha.

Once or twice a day my speakers(premium sound) will make the loudest pop you have ever heard and then nothing, no sound of any kind about 20-30 seconds later the stero comes back to normal. The dealer is ordering me an amp in hope it will fix the problem -Hope it helps

Same exact setup here with the exception of blue tooth. Also I have never used the park/ventilation.
I did set up the NAV for a road trip destination about 15 minutes prior to the occurence but that is it. Had not driven the car in 5 days when it happened. I'm kinda glad I'm not the only one. Hopefully there's a fix because it was horribly LOUD. I can't believe Greg/Oregon drove the car like that as I don't think that I could have. Thank's for the input.

Actually... it's even worse... it's iDrive. Written in pascal back in the 1980s. gui designed by junior person from SAP who was highly impressed with microsoft's bob.

Thankfully, the engine, handling, and now DCT make up for it. It would sure be nice if the iDrive matched the quality and attention to detail of the rest of the vehicle...

Hi all.

I spoke with my dealership this morning and forwarded them this thread.

They have asked, I agree, that the more people who report this to their dealerships when it happens, it helps BMW know that there is something going on besides an isolated incident. Hopefully, this is not widespread, but even if a small percentage are having the problem, BMW should be made aware.

So if you have any of the same issues (stereo blasting for no apparent reason or stereo not playing any audio after starting the car) please let your service department know and let them know that others are experiencing the problem as well.

Thanks in advance.
