I did mine a few days ago 2018-1 map update and all went okay.
I had already previously done two map updates so have an account. Logged in to the BMW download manager and then it downloaded to my PC 17GB and varified the download. Then loaded to USB unzipping to 22GB....took about 2.5 hours total. You need a 32 GB USB stick formatted to FAT32. The next day I plugged it into the car and it recognised a new update and started. Took 45 mind to load into the car and is now showing the latest version of 2018-1 in the car. When in maps view on idrive press options button and it will list the maps version you have. You need a BMW Connected Drive account which you put your chassis number into and it shows the available updates, then the BMW download manager need to be installed (a link is shown) on your pc before starting the download through that. |

Have just checked my maps an they are still on 2016-2. On BMW connected it states map updates are booked until 3yrs old so from what I am reading these OTA updates don't work.

My OTA updates had been working but not had one for a while so as my updates finish at the end of the month I have downloaded the latest 2018-2 maps. It does need a 34gb USB stick though as a 32gb formats to just over 29gb and its not quite big enough

My UK & Ireland maps appear to update automatically straight to the car, but Europe maps need to be downloaded, transferred to a USB stick and then plugged into the car and updated.

Isn't it the case that if you have the Nav Professional it downloads straight to the car but if you have business Nav (standard Nav like me) you have to update via USB.

I have the professional navigation, and Europe maps need to be updated manually via the USB stick. My previous Europe maps were 2016-2, so not automatically updated. UK and Ireland maps update seamlessly though.

Because I live on a road which is two years old and until I upgraded to 2018-2 via USB my road didn't exist on the system (It said I was in a field) |

Major disadvantage with BMW nav is the fact that camera alerts are missing.
Mine is s606a business nav and in options I read Europe route 2014 and Entry nav 14352. Ideas somewhere that if you have the CIC and not nbt you might be able to download camera alerts. Is this correct for F3x models? How to know if you have CIC business or nbt business? |
