M performance Exhaust now banned in Europe

Just read a post on the news thread on Bimmerpost, very interesting apparently it’s meant the new M2 CP has to be changed, I have no idea how to attach a link, I’ve read it on the Bimmerpost app

Apparently anything that has a function to increase the exhaust note in any car isn’t now allowed, glad I got mine when I did

It affects All cars all manufacturers

I guess it just means we need those flaps open all the time!! Glad I ordered my M3 CP when I did - I was going to hold off until the G80 but it sounds like that will be twice as expensive thanks to Brexit and half as loud thanks to the EU doing what it does best...

Does anyone know if it's an immediate stop?

Weird nothing has been mentioned before?

On the back of this my 440i MPPSK is now available for sale - shall we start the bidding at £100k. Guaranteed to be more awesome than a new one!

Need a reliable source which can be verified. Otherwise potential fake news and there's a lot out there for entertainment purposes

I completely removed the box on my diesel. Not a jot of difference due to the dpf!

I'm probably wrong but it seems related to the early demise of the M3... They dropped it rather than replace the carbon prop in favour of steel as they are doing with the M4 to make room for an additional filter which I assume must therefore be fairly downstream in the exhaust - I guess MPEs need modification along with the standard exhausts and the priority right now is to sort the standard exhaust - this came into force in July hence the rush and pause in availability of the MPE which seems pretty real in mainland Europe from what several people are reporting? I'm probably putting 2 & 2 together to make 5 though...

That sounds more plausible than it now being against the law to make an exhaust sound louder than standard, or to have a switchable exhaust fitted.

So what's to stop owner fitting them for themselves? after all the MPE isn't a factory fit.

We sell AC Schnitzer, Akrapovic, Supersprint, Remus and Quicksilver exhausts. I haven't heard a peep from any of them about this, so for now at least it's business as usual.

There are individuals who think it is clever to make their exhaust ridiculously loud and annoying just for the sake of it, but this small scale problem doesn't require large scale market regulation, it requires a £1000 fine and an ASBO.

isnt it same analogy with removal of DPF, i illegal in print but people do it and no one checks, although MOT rules now changed to pick this up but still can pay MOT £50 cash and he will pass it

No I don't think it is.

Removal of DPF being an is an actual thing. The exhaust noise thing is made up fake news.

Glad I got mine fitted when I did

I thought it was something to do with it not fitting with the petrol particulate filters that are going to be fitted to new cars?

Well BMW can't be seen to sell a "cheat device" for their emission systems.....which seeing as the OPF is fitted in the mid section of the exhaust system, would be included in the part that the MPPSK exhaust replaces.
