Events I'm Attending in 2018 - Anyone Else Going?
I'm planning on driving my new M240i at the following BMW CCA club events later this year. I'll also be instructing at the Boston events. I'm wondering if other owners will be at any of these events.
More info on each event here: Mont Tremblant Event: https://www.motorsportreg.com/index....6860CD2F305035 Mid-Ohio Event: https://www.motorsportreg.com/events...-events-144750 Watkins Glen Event: https://www.motorsportreg.com/index....6860CD2F305035 Update: I should have noted that the WGI event is jointly sponsored by the Genesee Valley and Boston Chapters of the BMW CCA. Sorry about that, GVC members! Last edited by dradernh; 06-25-2018 at 09:37 PM.. Reason: Clarify Which Clubs are Sponsoring the Watkins Glen Event |

If you haven't looked, you can see who else is already going here: https://www.motorsportreg.com/index....226B7F4156B522.
Both Boston and GVC are heavily focused on instruction, so it should be a good event in that regard. The weather is usually pretty good at that time of year - the peak heat of summer will almost certainly have passed. Hope to see you there! |

I'll be at WG in Sept, see you there. By next year I'm hoping to get my act together to try some of the other local tracks like Lime Rock and the Canadian tracks. Might even try to get back to OH to try Mid-Ohio, if my sister-in-law will put me up overnight. Last year I was heading down 71 when s/t was going on, and all the Porsches on trailers were beckoning.

Yeah...certified old guy here - one that is done standing around in the sun on 90° days and changing tires in a driving rain. But oh, the amount the club wants for the privilege of that garage - breathtaking!

I'll be with the other instructors in the garage - stop by Bay 23 if you get the chance.

WGI in September
I will be at the WGI event in September. In fact, I just finished my first track event in this car at WGI this past weekend. Still sorting out the car, but it's a fun project. Happy for any thoughts or suggestions.

You don't have a limited slip diff, is that right? I'm pretty sure that an LSD would result in a lower lap time, although I couldn't say how much faster it would be. I don't really have any specific suggestions yet, as my car's just finished being modified, and I'm still breaking-in a new diff. I'll get around to posting what I've done to the car in the next couple of days, but it's very similar to what you've done. My first outing is this weekend at Mid-Ohio, a track at which I've only attended competition school (eight years ago), and one that is about as opposite from the Glen as a track can be (i.e., a tight handling track vs. an open, flowing, and very high-speed track). My guess is that these cars will shine more at tracks like the Glen than they will at tracks like Mid-O and Lime Rock Park.

Hi, just wanted to let everyone know that even tough it was raining we had a blast at Mont-Tremblant, the track is a lot of fun, I can't even imagine on a dry with good sticky tires !
I had the chance to try an M2 with MP Coilovers, my M235i Xdrive gave me a small edge mid corner and I could lean a bit more on the throttle as some places but it was still an eye opener about the M2, its a wonderfull ''track ready'' street car. I will probably trade for one in a near future, I don't daily the m235xi and go to the track more and more. I recommend to anyone to at least visit this track once if they can, spend some time around there if you can, the scenery and the old and new village are beautiful and there's lots of stuff to do around. Its 3hr drive from my home and I plan on lapping there at least once or twice per season from now on. happy motoring !

It's worth noting that in its time this track has hosted Formula One, Indy Car, Can-Am, Champ Car, Formula Atlantic, Grand-Am, and Trans-Am series races. Among others, winners on this circuit include an impressive list of the greats, including Denny Hulme, Jacky Ickx, Mario Andretti, John Surtees, Dan Gurney, Jackie Stewart, Mark Donohue, Peter Gregg, David Hobbs, Elliott Forbes-Robinson, Gilles Villeneuve, and Scott Pruett. And as PLF69 says, the surrounding environment is very attractive, with lots of available activities, especially of the outdoors sort. If you've got a family, this is the kind of place where they'll have something fun to do while you're running laps, so bring them with you if you can.
