Thinking of going down the allocation list

Hi guys, it's actually my 1st post so pls be nice, been a lurker for the past 2 months

anyway, got a call from my CA yesterday and told me that I am #4 on the list and that the car should be ready by end of this year. It's my first time ordering a car and I usually buy cars that are on the lot already. I haven't gone through process of choosing my options yet. the reason why I am thinking of going down the list is because I have read in the other thread that some M performance parts will be available later this year and I'm not sure if it's worth the wait or I might lose my spot. mainly I want to get the CF roof and I'm not sure if this can be port/dealer installed. was also thinking of exhaust, suspension, CF side mirror covers and CF trunk lid. thoughts? and any updates on the M performance parts if it will be available later this year? thanks!

CF Roof? Yikes. From the info known so far it's a dealer installed option. No one way in hell I'd ever let a dealer do that work, it'll never be right. Mine couldn't even successfully install the CF Spoiler on my M235i, and they tried 5 times with two different spoilers. They're a BMW certified body shop. I can't even imagine how badly the roof would come out.

I'm in the same boat as you, I'm #3 on the list and been told I should get it by the end of the year, who knows though? I'd like to get the exhaust, but read it's going to be super expensive ($5k+).

I did the CF mirror caps on my M235i the same time I did the spoiler. The fit wasn't correct and they couldn't get those right either. I had the dealer take them off and refund my money.

I like the trunk lid, but from what I've read it comes unpainted and is dealer installed. No thanks, for the same reasons above.

Maybe I'm overly cynical, but I just don't see many of the parts working out well in the end. I learned my lesson on my M235i and won't be repeating that mistake again.

Mperf specialist Lellmann said US customers will have port install available. But this has not been confirmed.

The M2C much like the M2 will only be available if you order, a customer walks, or dealer loads up the car with parts you don’t need.

Do not move down on any list! Keep your spot and make the decision once your allocation is ready to go. It could be 7 months or a year (possibly more) to get an allocation. It is only a 2 year production. When the reviews start to roll in, it is going to be much harder than now to get your spot.

If you're going to get the roof, wait until they can port install so you get the FULL car warranty on it!

I was number one on both of my local dealers. They have both contacted me to place my order but I have told them both that I am going to hold off for a 1st or 2nd quarter allocation of next year. I wont drive the car October 31st thru April 1st, so why have it sit in the garage untouched. Both have said no problem, and they would bump me down the line. I also want to see which options are available in November. I am on the list for a new GT4 as well, but that il likely 1 year out.

I did the same. Im number 1 at my dealer and they called Tuesday with an allocation. I requested they swap allocations with number 2 on the list. He becomes one, Im 2.

I'm the same mindset as you living in the Northeast, if first delivery is sometime in October or late, I'd only have about 2 months at best before having to garage it for the winter.

I'm hoping it's as easy as I'm thinking, email now to have me #1 for allocation in whichever month (late Feb?) to get me delivery in April?

Although, just the sound of "2020 M2C" does have a nice ring to it as well.

@orangeglim thanks for the input, I wouldn't let the dealer or any body shop touch the car as well, even if they are certified BMW shops. Exhaust at $5k, that something to think about.

I read about this and I'm hoping for some confirmation soon. Only way I will do it if it is port install

I'll probably do the same thing if I was living in your area. When I hace my e39 I didn't drive it as much those time of the year because of the rain. Hopefully no issues when it's time to order for you guys and let's see what they have to offer when November comes
