TPMS - can it give a false warning?
On my commute today got a warning that front right pressure too low and that I should pull over. But in the vehicle information screen all tyres reading at 2.3 bar, a tiny bit low perhaps but all tyres reading the same, nothing wrong in the feel of the car. Completed the drive without incident, and this evening on returning to the car it looked ok but warning still on the dash. Used my compressor to inflate the tyre by just 0.2 bar, the warning cleared and the pressure reading was solid for the one-hour drive home. So I'm wondering, if there was a puncture I'd have had some pressure loss over the day, so could this have been a dodgy signal from the sensor? The front right tyre is quite a bit newer than the others but same type.

Noticed that when the temperature in Glasgow dropped back to normal (ie bloody freezing) after a warm spell - got a message to say in effect “you don’t have a problem as such, but you might want to top up the air in your tyres”

On my previous car, 120i, every time I drove over a local road which is particularly uneven and bumpy I would get a TPMS warning. Checked the tires and everything OK.

Never had a problem with good old fashion air.

I had the TPMS warning and checked the tyre and it had no real loss of pressure so carried on with my journey. On arrival I looked at the tyre again and spotted a nail in the tyre, it wasn't leaking air but I made the assumption the sensor detected a loss of pressure when the nail went in.
So my advice would be to check your tyre carefully. |

now and then its happened, usually when the pressures have dropped about .3-.4 bar from when they were set. If i get the warning I look at the pressures in the idrive and go from there.

While I could be convinced at the benefits of nitrogen in tyres, I think with only 20% oxygen in air, the benefits are minimal. For example, how many tyre fitters purge the air from the tyre before adding the pure nitrogen?

It's free for me and I have a vacuum pump to pull a vac in the tyre first. I then purge a few times with OFN. Not sure it makes that much of a difference but since then I have had no tpms warnings. 👍🏻
