I would get gap anyway, insurance new for old isn't always that great if you read the small print and for what gap costs for 4 years cover I would take up the policy now IMO

I got mine through ALA via PH https://www.pistonheads.com/gassing/...f=23&t=1488230

I also went to car2cover first as they come in cheaper but ALA match their price and add on the PH discount so it made it really cheap.

Also go for replacement car not return to invoice because if the car goes up in value you'll have to pay the difference if you went for return to invoice.

Most insurers offer the "new car" replacement if yours is written off in the first year as long as you are the first and only owner.

Now, some don't. Meaning if some other dickhead runs into you and subsequently your car is written off, your insurance won't cover it. IE, no replacement car! Read the small print.

For the cost, just get GAP from day one for piece of mind.

Just done mine for collecting my M4 CP tomorrow and the cost from Frank Pickles is more or less £300 for 3 years cover for Replacement Vehicle.

Small beer for that piece of mind......

Pay the finance off and then you start again with a new car/deal

If you're going in bare feet (ie zero deposit) are you not as well going for finance gap?

As I understood it, this covers you for the potential shortfall between insurance payout and finance settlement. If you put in nothing at the outset, you're then back to square 1 anyway?

I get the point of RTI or replacement vehicle if you've put in a chunk upfront, but no point paying for cover you don't need?!

I think its also an advantage if you get a large discount on a car that you might not get again.

I got 30% off the F10 but currently the discounts are around 22%

Another for gap insurance.co.uk
I took it out for 3x years on month 11 for full replacement cover - brilliant price

Use "BRISKODA10” for additional discount
Have just finished pricing up for our new MINI being collected on Wednesday. Be mad to miss it!

Used Gap direct; agreed settlement price before policy was bought. Car was 18 months old when I took the policy; they agreed 110% if retail value at the point I took it out. I wish I’d taken it when new in hindsight.

In most scenarios. Discounts go up & down so this way you will get back into the same car without any extra costs.

Why "most scenarios"?
For the cost, full replacement is presumably the only sensible choice?

I used ALA 10 months after I took delivery of the car (something to do with the falling snow at the time persuaded me it was a good idea!) My car is leased so had to choose the appropriate policy but that was simple enough. I also was able to spread the cost over 10 months.

Buying a new 3 series now means you need full replacement GAP but check that the GAP company will allow you to replace it with any new car.

4 year gap will not cover the F3x

Not with me. Return to Invoice is exactly that and given BMW paid a £6,500 finance deposit on my deal the invoice figure is actually a lot higher than the real price of a replacement car...

Ah, sorry I thought that’s what we were talking about. Return to full RRP
