M2 Competition Motor/Photos - what do you see?
I am computer person - not a car person - but I like cars and I'm thinking about getting the M2C.
And I see lots of photos with engines and exhausts. They're all good and I've done a bit of research about what means what now. But I'd like to know - what do YOU see in the photos? And some engine questions (links appreciated): I looked at the Dinan and Eventuri air intakes for the M2. The air intake on the M2C seems to be similar - so I wondered is there a duct that takes the air in from the kidney grill and funnels it into the intake (like the eventuri) on the M2/M2C? Is there a performance increase for these intakes? The S55 turbos - I can't find any info on what type they are. Are they parallel? I know they are monoscroll but how to they sustain boost over such a huge range of revs? Is there a lag and huge punch from the M2/M2C (I havent had the chance to drive one yet) The particulate filter seems to increase the size of the Muffler and the M3 (with the S55) is being dropped due to not meeting particulate levels (I'm not sure why this is so or there is another reason when the M2 has that particulate filter) and non-euro seems to be not getting the p-filter but is there a performance penalty for the p-filter? Will non-euro get a boost? Edit: And another thing. I want power but I'm not really interested in huge changes I just want the tune the best it can be (because reliability suffers?) so is a Stage 1 Dinan gonna make it do 336kw which is basically the best s55 can do? And can I have it all run normal while I do the shopping and then turn into a monster when I press the M button? ///M Last edited by BMW ///M; 06-04-2018 at 08:28 AM.. |

I think that the roof is removable. Im not so sure about the engine. I see the air filter box on the right a big box in the middle that has two pipes into the engine but can't work out what it is. And I have no idea how the "functional" power hump works on the bonnet. |

hijack; Can someone post a pic of HS with the black wheels? I feel like I'm ordering a car in the next 72 hours and can't decide on wheel color. |

"I am a computer person" as in you're actually a computer trying to blend in with humans? I thought bots were more advanced than this because this post doesn't make much sense... but in the spirit of human-bot equality, here's the S55 tech doc which will have basically all the info on the engine.

Shape of the M Performance Parts power dome bulge is just for show. The engine doesn't require a 'pocket'. So its design is only functional to the eye (aesthetics) + weight (carbon fibre).
