Will the new M3/M4 have digital gauges?

I really like the analog rpm gauges and hate when I’m in a car with a digital one.The speedometer being digital as in 2 or 3 digits in a compact spot in the cluster works for me .As the future vehicles come out I see a huge display with a digital version of an analog gauges which I really don’t like.

Call me old fashion but I still want a loud v8 exhaust, rock hard suspension, super tight handling, but I do think power windows a great invention.:😀

It's not "gadge" or "gage" - it is gauge

If we are going to be further forced into this so-called digital age, then I want more whimsical options...like the ability to set a wallpaper like an Apple Watch, have a banana instead of a needle on the gauges, etc.

The current 4 series has them right? I was frustrated that the LCI M's didn't get them.

Yes, G80 will have digital gauges. Your best hope is to configure them to resemble analogue gauges. I like analogue gauges as well, but clearly BMW (and most of the auto industry) is past them.

Hmm, loud V8, analogue gauges...Sounds like your next car will be a Mustang GT! (That's not a bad thing at all.) That is, if the Mustang still has analogue gauges.

I hope those make other cars on the road show up in 3D.

They are trying to go to autonomous driving, will we be sitting in the back seats with controls for the car on an app.

I think a better term to describe the new gauge cluster is "virtual gauges". I test drove the X3 M40i today (helluva car for an SUV, btw) and it had the new gauge cluster and I have to say I really liked them. They are still analog in the traditional sense with a needle moving up and down with a dial of numbers. But the display is so much cleaner and crisper-- like HD. And I like the way it all goes to black when the engine is shut down. When I think of digital, I picture a Casio digital watch type of read out and the new instrument cluster is definitely not "digital" IMO.

If that apparent English major website writer considers it unadvisable, he or she can take it up with the engineers, government manual writers, and manufacturers.

Edit: But we digress...

the moment digital gauges came out they looked dated. Personally i would happily pay a $500 upgrade to buy the next get M3 with "analog" gauges if it was an option.

Digital looks gimmicky, dated and frankly just bad. Im all for upgrading the HUD, but leave the instrument cluster along.

Mustang has also moved to a virtual cluster in the higher trims...looks pretty awesome too

The tach is useful for shifting regardless of whether a clutch pedal is being used.

Regarding the dashboard - as long as I can easily monitor the RPM, I am good with whatever display technology is chosen.

I had digital gauges in my 650ix GC. When it was below freezing they were disturbingly laggy.

It really sucks when your gauges have to warm up! lol

I don't know how the no DCT part will be, but I like the idea of the other 2. My Jeep has a small lever for the parking brake that is super easy to turn on and off. I 'hate' having to lift up the whole lever on my car. Not that it's a big thing, but the simple lever is easier. I also like the potential of the variability of the digital cluster.
