Steering Wheel Leather Cracks

11,000 miles. Steering wheel has developed cracks in the leather. I can feel it and it's somewhat annoying. Anyone else encounter this? Would it be covered under warranty?

IMHO it should be covered but best to ask the dealer.
Is that caused by some cleaning product or sun exposure?

I haven't applied any cleaning products except Lexol leather cleaner and it's always garaged when I'm at home or work.

Found some reports on Lexol drying the leather out.

I literally just applied some leather care products to this yesterday. I think they should cover that under warranty. The nice thing about something like this is worst case scenario it's easily replaced with another OEM part.

I'll run by the dealer and see what they say.

That’s not cracks, it’s where the leather has been scuffed with a ring or clothing when getting in or out of the vehicle. I’ve done that myself on a previous bmw and it looked exactly the same.

+1. Leather Masters is a better option than Lexol. You want to use water based conditioners like LM.

Correct. I have seen this on many cars and it's when people getting in or out rub up against the wheel.

My driver side seat is not looking great and they implied unless it's cracked, it's normal wear and tear, so since yours cracked, they should cover it!

Also if they say it's normal ask them to show you another similar aged car with the same issue, if they can't, it's not normal.

This is a side issue, but with summer coming, if you want to protect your black interior including the steering wheel from the sun, here are some links for a sunshade and steering wheel cover.

The following allows you to upload a graphic such as your spouse, etc.
I used the BMW Roundel from Google Images.

Applying leather cream masked it a little. The smooth nappa leather is prone to wear and tear marks unlike the Dakota.

Could also be a pocket knife clip, I have done it many times and it looks exactly like that.

Sorry but it doesn’t look like cracks but looks like the leather was under tension and a good leather nourishing oil or something like that would do it.
