Ceramic coatings
Have people applied these themselves and if so which ones?
I've been looking at the GTechniq stuff and don't know if I need the Exo and Crystal Serum or just one? Any other decent brands to recommend?

I have the same question.
Planning to have my car detailed plus PPF and am undecided between UNC-R, GTechniq, or something else. Gloss finish, hydropobic, long life and easy maintenance.

For the Gtechniq the serum is the protective coating then topped with the Exo for the repellent side of things.
Think of the crystal serum as an extra coat of clear coat and the Exo as the wax/repellent side of things. |

FYI. If you mess up Crystal Serum application it needs sanding off. Think Serum light is ok but be careful. |

I have used the Gtechniq quick detailer since it was applied and I think that keeps the EXO doing its thing. Has definitely kept swirls at bay. After a year there are very few marks in it. One word of advice though, EXO does mark if rubbed or touched lightly on a even mildly dusty car. My neighbour wiped a gloved hand over the dusty wing before I could stop him, saying he loved the colour. It looked like he had scratched the shit out of it. I couldn't get the mark out with QD. I panel wiped it and it disappeared, that strips the EXO back to the CSL, so I then re applied the EXO. Long story short, it takes ages, but the rewards are worth it, just. When I calculated the materials used to do it myself, I think I saved about £550 by doing it myself rather than taking it to a detailer. I'm a very fussy so do everything I can myself. You will need a dust free garage and a diffuse light source too. This is to make sure you get all the CSL residue off! It's hard to see with a spot light torch. |

a few options for you
Gyeon wetcoat - spray on, jet wash off. Repeat every few washes Gyeon CanCoat - need to prepare car a bit more, single coat, easy to apply, need to leave overnight. lasts 6month CSL and EXO - probably best DIY option - needs a full day i would say, and left overnight |

As mentioned above, prep is key.
To get the most you really need to spend time doing full decontamination, ideally use a DA to get out those swirls etc. The more time spent on the prep, the better the end results. Curing time is also pretty key as it all needs time. |

I had Gyeon Cancoat 2 applied by a detailer from new. After 7 months it is still going strong.
Will reapply myself after one year. At about £35 it's good stuff. |

I had GTechniq applied by detailer - CSL outside and relevant stuff for wheels, windows, tyres and interior. Highly recommend...
Pics and story here... https://www.definitionsdetailing.co....isq5correction Still comes up wonderful and shiny and smooth as anything... |

Do you guys honestly think these coatings are worth the cash? I have the Gtechniq treatment on the F36 and I really am not sure I will bother again. The car is constantly filthy in the winter and gave up trying to keep it clean.
In the summer, two buckets and my jetwash every Saturday afternoon. Will I really see the benefit when she is around 3 years old the normal paint would start to fade?

Gyeon MOHS is excellent and easy to do at home - just did my car at the weekend.
If you use a detailer I would go high end GT Techniq.
