Race Build - Wiring HELP Needed
So, with my fire suit firmly in place, I have to confess to a major mistake and seek some help from the group.
In the process of gutting my E92 M3, I cut the power to the fuel pump. Long story/poor decision/need a fix. After substantial research and discussion with various parts suppliers and local parts guys I trust, I have ruled out the possibility of sourcing the 3 foot length of wiring (four braided wires, terminated on each end through a different type of plug) that I need. It has no BMW PN and is only available by purchasing an entirely new wiring harness for the vehicle, which I would then cannibalize for the piece I need. It may come to that (+ a painful wait/$450) but there are at least two other ways to go. The two other options that I see are to either 1) repair the cut wires by splicing them back together or 2) finding a donor vehicle (part car/totaled/junk yard). Not being thrilled with the prospect of option 1, I'm looking for help from the group about possible sources for option 2 and/or ideas about other options I haven't considered. I do have a few salvage title candidates that are on the auction block now, but that feels a bit like a wild goose chase and would depend of the buyer being willing to render the car inoperable. I also know that this particular wiring is universal to at least all E92s, so I'm not limited to the M3 crowd, but I thought I'd start here given the greater likelihood of those who track their cars and may have parts sources. Thanks! |

I'll be honest I'm not sure if you're being serious.
Repair the wires. Replacing an entire body harness because you cut a wire would be pretty hilarious.

I agree, if you are not confident to do the splicing and keeping the wires from shorting out just go to a reputable stereo shop.

Thanks for the input Gents. I agree that splicing is the easiest way to go - just looking for other ideas to make sure I'm not missing something and a little concerned with the integrity of even the best splice.

Doesn't sound like something you should be doing yourself if you aren't confident.

What wires were cut? The 14gauge yellow/red wire cluster?

This Forum comes through again! I got a pm today from another member with a wire harness. He is sending me the bits I need to replace the sections I cut.
So grateful for the help. It will save me time and expense. |
