X2 shift lever?
For those of you who have seen the X2 in the flesh, I was wondering if you could comment on the shift lever?
In some pics, I've seen that the X2 has the same lever as the X1, but I've seen some other pics (and test drive videos) where the X2 lever is the electronic kind like all other BMW's other than the X1. If you've seen it, would you mind sharing what type it was? |

If you look on realoem.com, the shift lever is the same on all X1 and X2 with the 8 speed transmission, globally.

For everyone who was hoping the shift lever was going to be updated on the X2 (North American 2.8), I just picked up mine yesterday (May production) and it unfortunately, still has the old shift lever. It has the sport transmission and paddles.

I don´t get it:
-chart states that all F48/F39 has "gear selector switch". That should mean electronic switch - not mechanical gearshift !? The 20dx demonstrator I drove 4 months ago had electronic. It sounds to me like BMW has a supplier problem. Since it is Aisin, it might have been caused by BMW. Another possible root cause is the DCT, supposedly only for low torque, FWD vehicles? X1 only? |

DCT and Aisin transmissions do not use the same shift lever.

I heard that in case of x-drive there is Aisin with same like in x1 shift lever.
However, in case of s-drive there is DCT with a "joystick" shift lever. |

Can I fit the gear lever from BMW F39 x2 into BMW f48 x1?
I happen to come across an American review of the X2 on You Tube. I noticed that the (automatic) gear lever was the same as in the UK X1 that I have. So I checked the BMW website for the USA and sure enough the US-spec'ed X2 has the X1 gear lever.
Does this mean that the X1 and X2 gear levers are interchangeable? Can I replace my UK X1 lever with the UK X2 one? The leather on my X1 lever has become frayed (just 9,000 miles on the clock). BMW refusing to replace it, claiming it is normal wear and tear. I think they have just used a very thin leather - I previously ran an E36 from new to 280,000 miles - the leather gear knob (manual - more wear!) remained pretty much intact apart from just becoming a bit shiny . I'm really unhappy with the X1 lever! |

It doesn't help to post what shifter you have unless you specify the model.

Down-under the petrol (front-wheel drive) models have the 7 speed dual clutch auto gearbox with the 'electronic' shifter that moves back to the same position regardless of selection P, D, R, N .
The diesel (all wheel drive) has the 8 speed auto. There's no AWD petrol here.
