VANOS solenoids or Cam shaft sensor ???? HELP
I have 2006 325i with 130,000 miles and I was getting a - 2A87 code so I replace both Vanos solenoids located in front of the engine. I wasn’t having any problems with the car just wanted to get rid of the code. Well after replacing both solenoids the 2A87 code came back and now I have a check engine light. Is there any other solenoid except the two in the front that causes this code 2A87. Will the cam shaft sensor cause a 2A87 code and where is it located. Thank for your reply.

That's the code I was getting forever, along with 2A89 and I changed all solenoids and sensors, code never went away then eventually car stopped running and it turned out the vanos bolts broke, yours may have come loose. When they break you will hear loud rattling from the engine. Per Rocket Surgeons post I'd take it to the Dealer to find out if the vanos bolts have been replaced. Camshaft Bearing Ledge is worst case but I have 200K miles on mine and despite the bolts breaking mine is fine so I doubt that's the issue. I have not had a vanos CEL since the bolts were replaces about 50K miles ago.
