OFHG Replacement, what else?
Just turned 54,000 miles on my 2011 335xi and it looks like I need to do the OFHG. Purchased the car in 2014 with 25k miles and has been absolutely awesome. Only repair so far has been the valve cover gasket (covered by CPO). I stay on top of maintenance and do most of it myself.
Anyways, I'm about to order the stuff to do replace the gasket but was wondering what else I should replace. Was thinking about the belt and associated pulleys. Thoughts? All parts/fluid are BMW OEM and looking at about $584 for everything from ECS. Shopping List: Oil Cooler Gasket- $30 Oil Filter Housing Gasket- $30 Accessory Belt Kit: $301 PROTECTION CAP Protection Cap Deflection Pulley Idler Pulley Accessory Belt Tensioner Assembly Accessory Belt Oil/Filter: $70 Transmission Fluid: LT-5 Manual Transmission Fluid - 1 Liter x2 $30 Transfer Case Fluid: XDrive Transfer Case Service Kit $51 Coolant: BMW OEM x2 $21 Thanks. |

I think it's a good idea to replace the accessory belt while you're in there. You can save a bit of money buying OE instead of genuine BMW (they're still the same parts).

As per above, replacing the belt is definitely a good call. A nasty OFHG leak can deteriorate the belt material rapidly and you do NOT want that thing to snap without warning (as I'm sure you already knew...)

Hey guys, thanks for the responses.
I'm open to non BMW parts but as a general rule have always used OEM Audi and BMW parts; never had a problem. Heard too many horror stories of people using off brand parts such as timing belt components and the "OE" parts were never quite as good as OEM. Are there any brands that are OK to go with? Edit: I'm also looking at putting in a new waterpump/thermostat as preventative maintenance. Much easier to do it when the car runs great. |

you might as well replace the o rings for the oil cooler lines. I think there only .65 cents each. Mine still looked good when i did my OFHG, but there cheap enough just to replace while your at it.

Continental makes the belt kits for these motors I believe, the N52 one is like $90 on amazon.
And since you're doing pump/OFHG, coolant. Just grab 1gal BMW blue and 1gal of distilled and you'll be fine. When I drained my radiator I replaced the drain plug too, it's plastic.
