When taking delivery how did you get gas?

I know some of you don't care but I also know that some request that the porter doesn't go get gas by him/herself when taking delivery of the car. How did you handle this? Did you ask that you drive with the salesman to get gas or is there another approach you took? Would be interested in hearing some of the stories.

I just let the dealer do their own fill up. As part of the PDI the car is driven I assume anyway? I know it's precious and a relatively expensive machine...but...it's .....

...just a car?

Find gas station.
Insert credit card, enter 5 digit zip.
Remove nozzle, select grade (min 91 octane recommended)
Insert nozzle into this hole on the side of the car on the rear passenger's quarter panel.
Squeeze nozzle trigger until it auto stops. Do not top off to get a round number.
Replace nozzle, shaking no less than 20 times to ensure no gas drips on the paint.
Drive it like you stole it.

When I picked up mine I thought about this and then decided as long as they don't screw a license plate bracket into the front bumper (as I specifically requested) I'll let them do all their dealer prep that they normally do on much more $$ cars.

Surprising I got to the dealer as soon as I could and literally showed up as they were about to gas up the car. My CA said why don't you go gas it up yourself and take it for a drive. So me and a young nice kid that worked for the dealership went and drove it around a bit and gassed it up. The entire time he was telling me how much he loves the car and color LBB.

Great experience! Perhaps you can request this?

Pro tip: get a paper towel from the windshield washing station and put that under the nozzle as you pull it out so that you catch any possible drops

And pay attention that the pump handle doesn't touch the fender/qtr panel. It comes very close if you stick it all the way in. Some handles are missing the protective rubber as well at the bottom.

Definitely don't want any spillage when you pull out; dire consequences otherwise...

Definitely make sure to stick it in all the way, and make sure you're not missing the protective rubber; dire consequences otherwise...

Told my SA to make sure they put 94 in, but no guarantees I guess. How would I know if they didn't? Also told them not drill the front plate and to leave the shipping film on the car as it will be driven to PPF place first thing. Hopefully they do all the things I have asked. Car should be here in a couple of weeks.

No way. Everybody knows that if you don't top off and hit a round number on the amount due then the entire universe will be torn asunder.

Or maybe it's just the car, I forget.

I let the dealer do it, but at the gas station of my choice so there would be no ethanol in the gas.

Wasn't a problem. Pick mine up at the Welt and it came with a 1/4 tank. Left the Welt at 17:00 or so and had my pick of Munich gas stations during rush hour.

So the M2 has been out for well over a year now. At this point, I'm not thinking anyone at the dealer really cares that much. The car is new to you and super exciting, and I don't want to minimize that. But to the guy at the dealership that's going to put gas in it, it's just another car at this point. He's driven dozens by now.

Now if you were taking delivery of the very first M2 CSL, well, that's a different story.

Smaller volume dealers may only see a very small number of M2s per year. Plus that guy taking it out for gas is at the bottom rung of the ladder and may have just started working there last week.

You guys need professional help. It is just a $50k car. People with Ferraris don't fret like this.

And you others, the "protective rubber ones". You are awesome.

Well the OP is in LA so I was assuming the dealer has seen many. Also, no lot attendant / gas getter drives your precious new car nearly as hard as the guys who unloaded it from the ship.
