How much oil is drained during oil change?

For those that have measured how much oil comes out when you do an oil change....how much was it?

I measured 8l coming out... not sure if that means i was 1l short or 1l just didn't get drained.

I always just add in 1x 5qt jug and then another 4qts from the second jug and i've gotten an overfill warning.

Just wondering what other's experiences are.

You will never drain all of the car's oil -- this is the case for any car. There's oil in the filter/filter housing, in the galleries, on the bearings (insert joke here) and in other random places. The S65's unusual pan design also exacerbates this, as will changing the oil when it's not warm. I'd bet there's 1/4-1/2 quart still in the motor after a drain. If you don't believe me, weigh a brand new oil filter and a used one; the used one will have a lot of oil in it.

You should never just blindly pour in X quarts because "that's what the manual shows". Always pour in less than the specified capacity, check the level per the owner's manual (many cars have a specific procedure), then add a bit more and check again. This is auto shop 101.

I'm not surprised you only got 8L to drain. The sump is 8.8L but you'll never get that much out.

there is a significant amount of oil just left in the filter housing after an oil change. if i had to guess, about 1/4 quart. a turkey baster would help a bit. there isn't much more you can do than that without losing your mind.
