Coding options

Hi All,
New to the forum and my first post!
I've just placed an order for a 520d se, and due to budget constraints I've had to limit the options I ticked and pick wisely.
I've gone for the HK sound system, sports seats, shadow line exterior trim and additional 12v sockets.
I've seen that there is the ability to code certain things on BMW's, does anyone know what 'options' are already fitted to the car, but just need activated through coding like CarPlay for example?
My mate has an A4 and there are options on that which he has enabled through an app connected to an OBD adapter, is it the same kind of thing on BMW's?

Any input will be greatly appreciated!

Coding is generally not about skipping check boxes and adding later.

Carplay requires an FSC code or provisioning so it cannot simply be coded.

Enhanced bluetooth might be the only option on the options list that can 'just' be coded IIRC.

Then carplay and maybe wifi hotspot may be added later with an FSC code as stated above.

But as for 'hardware' options, BMW is not in the habit of putting in 'unused' hardware which can be activated by coding. Generally, if the car is missing an option you will need to retrofit hardware and THEN code it to get that feature.

Thanks for the replies!
A couple of questions..
What's an FSC code?
What does advanced Bluetooth give over standard?
Is high beam assist codeable?
What's needed to change/access these codes/modules?

I'm not against paying for modules to enable functions (which I may well do once I actually get the car), just wondered if there's any freebies tucked away somewhere.

FSC code is an activation code for certain features like Frontal Collision Warning, Navigation, and CarPlay.

Enhanced bluetooth includes office functions.

High beam assist is not without DA cameras, Adaptive LED's, and turn signal stalk button to enable.

Another couple of coding questions..
I've seen a couple of apps for coding from bimmertech and Carly, anyone tried either and any preference?
Also, is it possible to have a digital speedo coded on to the dash, rather than just in sport?

Bimmercode is rated highly. It can apparently activate VIM at any speed on the G30, which can not be done in E-Sys at the moment. That alone is worth the £30 for the app because people are charging around £100 to code VIM.

Bimmercode and Carly are rather limited as far as G-series at the moment.

Would you say that even for the casual coder like myself?

All I keep seeing on forums is what CAN'T be done with e-sys on the G30 right now (most notably VIM at any speed). If Bimmercode can do that as well as the other things that the casual coder can do with e-sys, isn't Bimmercode the better option?

Anything that Bimmercode can do can also be done and more with E-sys. Bimmercode is good for casual coder of F-series. For G-series, you are mostly limited to head unit coding (eg, removing disclaimers).

VIM at any speed? I read a post by you that said only solution is a commercial solution currently.

Correct. VIM at any speed is not publicly available via E-sys because people are making money on it as well as do not want loop hole closed.

Bimmercode + Bimmerlink + Adapter = $85, but will work on multiple cars for VIM. Other solutions are specific to headunit so you must buy each time.

Exactly and this is my point - VIM at any speed is not available on e-sys but IS on bimmercode. Thats a big advantage to Bimmercode IMHO.

I do have e-sys already as I use it on my F10 but I will have to get Bimmercode for VIM when my G30 arrives. For anyone with a G30 and currently not having e-sys, they should consider Bimmercode if VIM is important to them.

VIM stopped working on Bimmercode.

EDIT: Guess it was fixed and working again.

Ah come on! Is there another way to get it? I remember you telling me about doing it locally but we only discussed Bimmercode...

I should have done it when I had the chance

They are not publicly available. Programs cost $3000-4000. Or you can buy individual ones for $75-$200.
