Hey guys, I have glacier aluminum trim in my car and have always thought it lacked a bit of warmth. In my previous e90 which had the beautiful oyster interior with poplar wood trim, I wanted to switch to piano black but never got around to it. I think that would've made an excellent looking interior. My current e90 has black leather and I picked up some nice wood trim on ebay with plans of doing a DIY piano black finish. I think it could look amazing and I've seen one picture of black leather/piano black and liked it but before I commit to the amount of work this will take, I'd like to get a few opinions on whether or not it will lack contrast and leave me wanting the aluminum back. What do you all say: too much black or no?

I have this interior set up. everything looks great for a week after interior detail. just know its hard to maintain and dust particles are visible under the sun. Other than that, the clean all bulk look is really eye catching.

I love Piano Black but finding Kryptonite is easier than finding rare trim for the E90!

I wanted Piano Black and so does everyone else who has an E90 (it seems). Impossible to find! And if you do find it get ready to spent a lot of money and spend it fast because if you don't buy it immediately someone else will with in minutes!

Then I wanted Glacier Silver (a.k.a E90 335is trim) and so does everyone else who has an E90. Hard to find & expensive to buy used but not impossible to find.

I'm not even going to get into the Carbon Fiber wrapped trim being sold for thousands of dollars on eBay craze!

AT the end of the day a good wrap can possible mimic piano black!

Are people actually getting thousands for wrapped trim on eBay? I know my future side job if so! haha. I actually don't plan to buy OEM piano black, as I believe it had to be ordered separately since we don't have BMW individual in the states. I bought a dark burlwood trim and plan to refinish it myself if I go through with it. Good luck with the search for the is trim!

yup there is an eBay seller out of Ontario, Canada (Nacho) that CF wraps old trim and list them from $500 for a piece to $1000+ for the set.

People buy them too. But that Piano Black Trim is like finding the Holy Spirirt!

I've got a piano black trim. IMO it's the best look for the interior of any of the e9x platforms. Minus the leather carbon fibre trim.

Before I rewrapped mine aluminum color, the back had piano black wrap on it. It was nice but I noticed it showed handprints and such pretty easily. No big deal, I clean my car regularly but just a thought. Anyway, I think It would look clean with black interior.

Very nice but black has to be left spotless. Painting wood any color is an enormous upgrade. This car is too small to properly display a typical wood finish. Unless you get your black finish perfect it will look crappy so I hope you've got all the right tools for a DIY. I'm a big fan of all the aluminum and silver trims since it breaks up the black boldly. Why not just keep yours on? I'm guessing just bored with it?

Yeah I may still keep the silver, it doesn't look bad at all and isn't pitted like most but I feel like it's a tad bit cold or uninviting. I've read up on a lot of DIY's on a piano black finish for speakers, etc. and I think I could do it but worst case, I ruined some burlwood and would just keep the aluminum. Could always wrap the wood if it didn't turn out well.

Wrapping will never have the same mirror finish that can be achieved from a lacquer but I plan on attempting it myself so we'll see how it turns out. Might be horrible but the trim won't be ruined as I could always wrap it if I screw up haha

I agree with you on the finish. Please post pics of your progress if you go through with it.

You're right, a laquer finish cant be compared as it has alot of depth.
