Hi all.

Apologies if this has been asked before, could not find another post.

There is no best modification as everyone's wants needs and opinions are different.

Read the lists of available coding options and form your own decision

Some of the more popular ones are:

1. Removal of speedometer "correction"
2. Addition of digital speed readout to list of parameters displayed via stalk button
3. Unlock doors at engine stop when auto-locking is enabled
4. Shut-off of electronics after engine stop when driver door opened
5. Enabling display of tire temperature and pressure in I-Drive

Those are just a few - there are many, depending on your car's options and so forth.

I have managed to code quite a few things now.

There are two that I cannot find which I'm sure should be available.
- Shut-off of electronics after engine stop when driver door opened
- Acoustic chime when locking/unlocking

Can anyone advise?

That's one I never wanted. What if you have to stop in a sketchy area? Makes it easier for a carjacker to jump in before you have a chance to assess your surroundings.

Are you referring to using Auto Start-Stop? In that case, it doesn't unlock; it only works when you push the engine stop button. And, if you have your unlock set to do driver-door only, that's the only door it will open. I try to avoid "sketchy areas" wherever I'm driving, and I have a concealed-carry permit as a further deterrent to any would-be carjackers.

I was referring to this, as quoted in my response.

I wouldn't want all doors to unlock, and I don't see the point of auto-unlock on the driver's side. You still have to tug the handle to open the door; it's just two tugs if you have comfort access.

Situational awareness is the key. If you're in a position where you are justified in using deadly force, your life is already in danger, and it could all be over before you have a chance to draw a firearm (especially if it is truly concealed, because drawing from concealment while seated and wearing a seatbelt takes a lot longer than drawing at the range).

As a former law enforcement officer, I'm well aware of the dynamics of drawing a concealed weapon. Depends on where you conceal it, and I'm always very aware of what's going on around me. I don't have a "smartphone" to distract me like most drivers these days. Someone reaches for my doorhandle (other than a valet parking greeter), they'll be met with an unpleasant surprise. Besides, I don't shut my engine off until I've had a chance to look around if I'm in an open area.

The point of unlocking the doors at engine shutoff is convenience; in the past, some makes had the same feature when shifting into Park. Personal choice, which is why it's an option, not a requirement.
