Congrats on the new car!

I bought a CP M5 fitted with the MPE about 4 months ago (and I suspect it is a former M5POST forum members car) and it is nothing short of epic!
Hope you're enjoying it!

New member here too...

Joined recently as looking at changing out of my F10 535d into an M5.

Found a nicely specced one in a main dealer - '65 plate with 12k on clock and Competition Pack. Offered with remainder of 5-year service pack and 4 year warranty - 1 year AUC plus three years from Inchcape in-house version.

Anyone had any experience of the Inchcape warranty? Previous BMs have had the BMW insured version and have had no issues with claims on that.

Thoughts / advice welcomed on the car and warranty!

Both the service pack and warranty go with the car, so if the dealer has sold you on that as a value add then you've been a little mislead.

Speak to BMW UK and ask them about your existing warranty as you'll no doubt find your already covered, at least for the first 3 years and have no need to purchase the Inchcape warranty.

Thanks, Maximo. I know the Service Pack transfers with the car and would assume the BMW warranty is effectively the balance of the standard 3-year warranty it came with new. I don't think the Inchcape warranty is included as a cost per se as it doesn't seem to operate like the Mondial insured option; think if you have to make a claim, they'll cover it. I guess I need to be a bit more digging on this before making a decision.

Happy to help.

I maybe missing something, but it doesn't seem to add up how Inchape are going to be able to offer you additional warranty. Say for arguments sake your BMW warranty runs until Dec 31st 2018, the Inchape warranty would need to be deferred to start on the 1st of Jan 2019. So your effectively doing an advanced purchase, most businesses don't work that way. Ok they do a little but no over 12 months in advance, I would do a good deal of digging.

Also, you do know you can extend your BMW warranty don't you? https://www.bmw-warranty.co.uk/Start is the place to go. Enter your details and see what you get back. For my 2012 I was offered a fully comp warranty with no excess to pay for the grand total of £1500. So for yours that maybe reduced as your still covered by the existing warranty.

I always have a fear for dealer warranties, they never really live up to expectations.

Cheers,

Garry

Cheers, Garry. Just spoken with BMW Warranty and it has the final year of the manufacturer warranty left to run (expires Sep18). Renewal costs quoted ranged from £759 to £1251, dependent on excess. Look reasonable given the level of comprehensive cover.

The dealer (Coopers) is part of Inchcape and the warranty offered isn't an insured product like the AUC one, its a guarantee provided directly by them. My assumption is that if there was a problem, I'd take the car to Coopers and they'd fix it at no charge to me. Some examination of the cover offered and associated terms and conditions is clearly my next step.

I do like the car and given its month-end shortly, there's probably a better deal to be squeezed out of them. It's a want thing rather than a need so I'm equally happy to let this one go and wait for something else to come up (quite fancy an M6).
