But if that's not the case, it's definitely time to start asking questions. I would bypass the dealer and immediately contact the ED coordinators in Woodcliff Lake (BMWUSA's headquarters) directly, as that's what your dealer is going to do. While they are very knowledgeable, they may not be in the loop on the situation yet. Might help to email them and attached the article I posted and/or others. You can find other articles on the situation on the internet. Based on other's experiences with getting delivery of their ED cars on time (very unusual), the worst case scenario is that they will offer to reschedule (flight rebooking might be at your expense) or give you a different car to drive while in Europe. |

You might disagree, but I think the replacement car could be a windfall assuming they give you a decent car to drive. You would not put the mileage on your car, and you would not be concerned about engine break speed limitations on the autobahns. I would also assume you would not have to pay for your car until you take delivery at the dealer here, and that your warranty would not start until then too.

Sounds like they just need to find some other steering racks. You know like an M4 rack.
Unfortunately I think this is going to affect some people that ordered cars. Generally that's going to turn people off from BMW. I would think they would be working to correct this ASAP. |

Damn! Glad I went with the dealer who found an April build date instead of the one who found an available June date.
As the Bloomberg article suggests a partial shutdown of the Leipzig plant, I assume this will cause fewer total 2017 series 2 cars being built, due to limited capacity production schedules. Presumably, cars that have been ordered will all be built and vehicles planned for dealer inventory will be reduced. |

Talk about an over dramatized article written by a Mercedes fan boy. Sucks for anyone who has to wait for their car due to this though.

I can't see how or why you would be suggesting that the author over dramatized the situation. If Ford or GM had to shut down the same percentage of its production you can bet that it would be the lead item on the evening news here in the U.S. And vehicle production is a much bigger slice of the German economy than it is here in the US. Hopefully they will lose only a few days rather than weeks of production. |

I never said it wasn't serious. To quote the author: "Chances are, that if you've owned a BMW for more than 10,000 miles, you've had to replace a part that's emblazoned by the red Bosch logo....." Yes, that's overdramatization. |

Score (another) one for 'just in time' production methods. Tell me again how much they are saving by not renting a couple of warehouses to keep a few weeks supply? What really scares me is that they are starting to try to use this 'strategy' in our hospitals.
