DIY: M-Sport Steering Wheel Cover

Bavarian already did an excellent DIY on the wheel, so this is just for the cover.

I forgot to add my impressions of this wheel/cover combo...I LOVE IT!!! The new wheel is BEEFY compared to OEM, my god, what a difference! Plus the leather feels great and matches my shiftknob now!

The install was SUPER easy and took me 45 min and that's taking my time.

Go get yours now!!

Danny

HRC - I have the steering Wheel Cover....

I just want to change my current cover to the new cover....Reading your install just a few questions...

1. To confirm I need a T30 to unscrew the 3 screws in the back of the steering Wheel?correct?
2. Once I unscrew the 3 screws the steering wheel cover will come off? Is this correct?
3. and then I will need to use the T20 to unscrew 2 more screws within the steering wheel cover itself?
4.What is that other metal piece that came off with the steering wheel? Will that come off on mine?
5. Will the multi function buttons wire have to be unplugged or is that because in your install you were changing the whole new steering wheel?
Please let me know as I dont want to screw anything up and if it is as simple as the above statements then I will go out to the parts store and purchase the T30 and T20...

Thank you.

I'm not sure if the m-cover will fit the non m-wheel.

If you try, I also cannot tell you if you can access the cover alone without taking the steering wheel out.

If I were you, I would follow Bavarian's writeup and remove the airbag and steering wheel, just reuse your old wheel and then follow my write up to install your new cover on your old wheel.

The T-sizes you mentioned are right.

Good luck and please post pics when your done!

Danny

The M cover will not fit the non M wheel. It is more narrow.

Hello again,

Thanks for your quick reply...the cover that I have is a NON-M cover...it is a grey color cover to match my 6-spd stick shift.....

-I just wanted to check in with you to see if it was a simple job...or If I am better off going to a shop to have it done....

so as it currently stands you are not sure if I can change the cover without taking the steering wheel apart..correct?

Thanks again.

You'd have to remove and disconnect the airbag either way. Once you have it off, it is simply a matter of removing a single bolt to get the wheel out of the car. What I'm getting at is that removing the wheel doesn't add any complexity once you've gotten far enough to be able to take the cover off.

I'd probably remove the wheel even if it weren't required to change the cover - just to make it easier to work with.

OOPS. I just ordered 847. I wonder if I still have time to change it.

I got the steering wheel from qabeli(ebay), that part# was 32 30 7 906 846

Is that the wheel you have Danny?

I ordered through Crown BMW and I just got off the phone with JD. He looked up part numbers 847 and 848. 847 is NOT the part you want for any USA model as all USA models have multifunction buttons. 848 has the holes for the multifunction buttons to pass through.

Again, the part number you want for M-sport steering wheel cover is 32 30 7 906 848 this pairs with M-sport steering wheel part# 32 30 7 906 846.

Luckily I was able to change my order before it was sent out.

Hi all, I know this is an old thread to me asking for information on, but maybe someone knows.
I have just bought a 335D and the steering wheel cover is quite worn, so I'd like to replace it (and the buttons too).

Is the standard steering wheel cover (non M) directly replaceable with the M SPORT steering wheel cover? i.e. Are they interchangeable and do they fit perfectly?

There seems to be more spares around (ebay etc) for the M SPORT cover rather than the one I have (which has metal edges on 2 sides). Plus the M Sport one looks better.

thanks.
