X-Drive Transfer Case Dying
I've been noticing a strange vibration in my 2015 M235ix whenever I accelerate hard, or take my foot off the gas. It is brief but started to grow noticeably worse over time. I recently took the car in for scheduled service and explained the problem. After looking at the car they told me the transfer case needs to be replaced. The car has only 70000km (43500miles) on it and thankfully is still covered under warranty. Although the fact that something on the drivetrain is already burning out this early in the car's life is a little concerning. Does anyone else have experience with this issue?

GF's 328D xDrive 2014 w 55k shit the bed too, needs a new rear diff and the part is not available anywhere in the world. She's driving a loaner X5 indefinitely. $4k job if you need to pay (thankfully we don't).

This is concerning re: X1. On my 2008 E90 xdrive I had zero issues until I sold it with 70k miles. My 235 xdrive is staggered from the factory. Hence, that already gives you 1.5% circumference difference and is within tolerance that is supposed to be 2%. I have not heard much of transfer cases failing on the F22/23 but then most of those cars have not much mileage yet.

that sucks man, hopefully it's a one off issue. I know how you feel though, my old is350 had its transfer case going out at 105k which was a big reason for me going back to rear drive on the 2 series. At least they're not blaming you for it. My stealer tried saying it was because I decided to change the lifetime fluid at 80k. Coincidentally, the issue started right after they swapped some of the fluid. I'm pretty sure they botched the job and just needed an excuse. Hope they take care of you!

That X1 thread doesn't give me much confidence. Looks like this M235ix may be hitting the dealer lot and I will be sticking with RWD for future purchases! At least I can go back to 6MT if I switch to RWD.

If the there's a problem with the t-case, BMW is in for a world of hurting... Around here, I see so many BMW's with xDrive, sometimes, I feel like there's more xDrive equipped cars than not.
BTW, being that xDrive is full time AWD, all 4 tires should be the same size.. Usually the tolerance allowed for such is 2%. But being that xDrive can shift 100% of the power to the front or rear, you'd think it would be programmed to shift 100% of the power if there's any binding in the T-case, to releave the binding.

Needed a new transfer case too. Apparently the malfunctioning diff took the transfer case down with it as a result. Thank god CPO covered it.

The transfer case is a clutch pack correct? Seems to me these should have the fluid changed regularly to flush out the wear particles of the discs out. And it *should* be possible to service these, given they do have a wear item.
That said, given how many xdrives are running around I sure don't see many issues brought up. I've probably seen more transfer case issues posted over at the Tacoma forum.

I can definitely see a bad diff taking out a T-case.
