Hello all - newbie from NC with a newtome 2011 535i 6MT
Hi everyone,
FNG here. Recently picked up a 2011 535i 6MT. I have spent the better part of the last 12 years in a 2000 E38 740iL and that car never spent a minute in a dealer/auto shop, save for tires and inspections. I like to turn a wrench when I can and to do jobs on my own. I have been lucky enough to find information online to keep her up and running over the years, including an engine swap and Steptronic retrofit, among others. She was a blast to drive, but ultimately I wanted to get back in to a manual. Thus I went on a search for the 'newest' body style that would comfortably fit 5 while still allowing my left food to stay active and the F10 came to the rescue! She will be my 5th BMW over the years and my 26th vehicle in my lifetime. Initial list of mods/updates: - 2017 Nav maps updated (done) - Coded for various fun items (mostly done) - BMS Intake (done) - JB4 (waiting patiently on the shelf) - Chargepipe (waiting patiently on the shelf) - Downpipe (waiting patiently on the shelf) - V1 direct wired (waiting patiently on the shelf) - M-Sport front bumper (waiting on the CFO's approval) - 35% tint (waiting on the CFO's approval) Old girl (handed down to my mom): New girl: Please be on the lookout for plenty of stupid questions as I get my sea legs and I will continue to spend the majority of my time searching for answers on the interwebs. Congrats. Car looks great. I sometimes wish I held out for a manual, but they were impossible to find back when I was F10 hunting.

Yeah, I have plenty of plans! Just waiting for the bank acct to match my wishes.
First I'd like to do the front bumper. Maybe M-Sport. To me that feels like the most dramatic (and best looking) change I could do to the frontend. Also looking at dropping it an inch or 1.4. :-) But the savings acct is wounded (and so is the CFO) so I have to wait until both forget about my recent foray. Thanks! I spent a lot of time on her over the years. Takes time to find the right pieces and parts to make her whole. Yeah, I knew if I was going to venture out, I would have to wait until I found a manual. Aside from the 3s and under and Ms, these may be the last of the manuals in a larger sedan, for BMW. At least I have something for my kids to learn stick when they grow up! They WILL know how, even if cars are driving themselves by then. |

I had a 2000 740iL for about 8 years that was absolutely great until about 120,000 miles. It fit my body shape near perfect.
Prefer my 535i now though. |

Finally, a weekend of wrenching! My arms, hands and back are killing me.. but I got the chargepipe in, the downpipe, JB4 and new spark plugs all in! It doesn't sound like much, but man, doing the downpipe took me all day Saturday. What a PITA! Glad they're all in and can't wait to plug in the computer and get the JB4 mapped.

Nice! I can't wait to take delivery of mine and get it tuned. It only has a few months of CPO warranty left and I'll be free!
That is until a turbo goes out... Post some performance numbers when you can!
