Track Days with Hankook RS3

How many days have you gotten out of these tires? I have a 17" square set up. I'm rotating after each event. I have 6 Days on them so far. About 2 hours each day. Running at 38-39 PSI Hot. I feel there is over half tread remaining. What should I expect on average as far as useable days with these tires in total. Car is otherwsie stock, nothing to help camber, etc.

Wow that's good wear! Do you daily drive on them too? It's hard to say what you will get out of them. Depends on a lot of factors. When I ran them on my other cars I would not be able to get 6 full track days out of them, but I also daily drove them. I would imagine if they were my dedicated track tires I would have gotten maybe 6 days MAX.

I'll be switching to the new RS4 soon. I'm running the RE71 now.

I drive to and from track on them.

How many days are you estimating on the Bridgestone RE-71?

Nice. I have the RE-71R now too and was thinking about the RS4 but not sure if they will rub the strut as the RS4 is wider than the RE and I'm running 245-40-17 square

If I didn't daily them I estimate about 8 hours if you run square and can rotate them. I also run an aggressive alignment. I'm going to try and pull some camber out of the front of my car when I do get my next set of tires.

I have 1 1/2 track days on my current set (~3 hours). All on the same track with a tire rotation at the two hour mark. Two tires are on their last leg, but again I daily them.

Shallower tread and softer compound than the RS3.

Yes, I will have to double check my measurements before ordering the RS4. It's a wide 255 compared to the RE71.

Yeah... I believe I have 3-4mm clearance against the strut currently...

Might end up ordering through Discount Tire shop and have them test fit it and get the RE-71R if it doesn't ...

So the bridgestones wear faster than the RS3 based on your experience? Do you feel grip is better with the Bridgestone?

I have 8 track days on the RE-71R but 2 of them where a bit wet... and have about 50% left to the wear bars... but I rotate and run them backwards too so I can rotate side to side

Oh yes. RE71 wears much faster. It does have better grip for sure compared to RS3.

Even though it's rated treadwear is the same as the Rs3 the compound is much more aggressive. Manufactures have a lot of leeway in how they rate tires...

This is comparable to an R comp tire. Not quite as sticky, but close. Probably a ~1 second difference between a R comp > Re71 > RS3 at Big Willow here in SoCal.
RE71 is probably on par with the NT01 which is old tire tech.

Also RE71 is LOUD on the street compared to RS3. Keep that in mind if you want to daily it. I don't mind it cause race car. Also keep in mind tire life has ssoooo much to do with driving style and laptimes.

If I could get more even wear on them I could make them last much longer.

My wear is on the inside shoulder which is probably from street driving. Need to pull more camber out.

My RE71 after 1 1/2 track days:

I love the RS3's. I've used them on my 235i with much success. Btw, I just sold my 235 so I have 8 RS3s for sale. One complete set is on Kosei wheels with tire pressure monitor sensors. Any takers? PM me if you have any interest.

Anyone run these backwards to wear the outside of the opposite side of the tires for those of us running on tracks that favor Right hand turns?

Perfectly fine to do so. You may notice more road noise coming from the tire and the tire will not handle standing water (puddles) very good. So be careful.

The pic of my tire above is actually rotating the wrong way. I rotated my wheels in a X pattern is why. I've flipped the tires on the wheels with my previous setups though too.

I figured rain wouldn't make for a great outcome backwards. Would be easy enormously th to just rotate back for a session, etc.
