whats your insurance rate?
My premium for 6 months shot up from 680 on my 63k 435i to 790 on my m240i.
I am going to shop around. What is everyone else paying? PM if you have a good insurance broker/agent in Cali - I'm in SoCal. |

Insurance rates are so variable around the country, even by zip code, not to mention factoring in discounts, credit rating, etc., etc., etc. I can tell you in Kentucky I went from a 2011 MINI Cooper S Hardtop with 85K miles to a 2016 M235i convertible which resulted in an increase of about $100 every 6 months. My M235i rate is less than by wife's 2016 Q5 by at least $150 every 6 months and also less than for my 2005 Titan pickup. In Kentucky at least, rates are base more on liability than on repair/replacement costs, as in I can do more damage to person and property with the heavier and larger truck or SUV than with my car.

No tickets, no at fault accidents (someone rear ended me 1.5 years ago), profession discount in engineering, college educated in quant, 10k miles per year. Nothing has changed from once I picked up my 435i to my m240i bedsides someone rear ending me. They admitted fault and their insurance paid . Can my premium increase because of this? |

I wouldn't think so. You need to make some phone calls and do so insurance shopping. Your current insurer should be able to provide some insight into the rate increase.

When I swapped out my 228i for the new M240 a few weeks ago, mine went down about $50 per six months (which surprised me). Now sitting at about ~$650 in DC, Progressive, bundled with renters and no accidents/tickets.

I need to shop for insurance too.. In the last few years Liberty Mutual has be getting the better end of me... Rates keep going up for no reason.. No additional tickets or accidents.
I went from paying $1400/yr for coverage on 3 vehicles to $2200, when I took an Expedition off an added a Ram 3500... now I'm up to $2800 on the same 3 vehicles..

So Cal is rough with rates, but Geico has been pretty solid for me. Around $120 per month for the M235. (It was significantly cheaper, however, for my 3 series, older bimmers, and Toyotas).
Also, they've been really good about paying for damage / claim adjustment / etc. I don't know if they're the cheapest, but I definitely haven't had to worry about them covering anything, if that helps. Good luck |

I don't know why these threads come up - there are so many factors in rating insurance - your zip code, amount you drive, credit rating, liability limits, deductibles, driving record, age, vehicle. Contact an independent agent and have them rate multiple companies for you if you don't like what you're paying. A lot carriers are taking rate increases in Oregon and other markets. You're not alone but it pays to shop.

To echo the last post, there is no way to compare rates between individuals, which makes the discussion and all the anecdotes pretty useless.
What matters is getting a quote from a different insurer, ideally annually but at least every couple of years. We cut our cost on a 15 M235 and a 15 X3 in half by changing companies, with no reduction in coverage, in fact a bit of an increase. And the new company is very reputable: Travelers. So stop posting your insurance cost and go talk to an insurer! |
