Hands free calling in a convertible?

Can the peeps with a convertible tell me what kind of call quality your getting when using the hands free calling with and without the top up?

If you didn't use the car's hands free feature, but have used a headset, be it wired or bluetooth, how was the call quality with/without the top up? Which headset do you have?

Thanks!

Garage List
With the top up the internal noise levels aren't noticeably greater than in a hard-top, and I've happily taken and made hands-free calls. With the top down I have taken a couple of calls, but it isn't ideal - I could be heard, but I've said I'd call back.

If you're worried about soft-top and noise levels, then the 2 Series Convertible is a world away from earlier generations of open-tops. I had a Lotus Elise thru 2000-2005 and I simply couldn't have any sort of conversation with a passenger above about 30mph.

With the wind deflector up and top down at 70mph I can have a reasonable conversation in the M235i with the passenger.

I fully support that, I was very impressed how quite the car is with the top down and the wind deflector in place. There are no issues at all using the handsfree. It's really quite amazing how calm and war it is with the top down.

With top-up: not much diff than you would experience in a coupe/sedan.

With top-down it depends on several factors:
If you are doing GT 50 mph with all the windows down and with no windscreen in place, making calls would be problematic.
With windscreen in and front windows up, then calls made LT 30 mph are clear, but get increasingly dodgy as speed increases or other factors (traffic, wind, road conditions, etc)..

Yeah under 50 mph or so nonissue.

If no wind deflector, is it a no go?

More problematic, but roll up front & rear windows, turn up the phone volume and you're probably gonna be O.K., unless you're doing over 50 mph and got an 18 wheeler running next to you.
