Fuel Tank Leak Diagnostic Module

I received a letter today from BMWNA extending the warranty on a Fuel Tank Leak Diagnostic Module (NVLD) to 10 years/120,000 miles. The component is described as:

B-ELWR 2016 Leak Diagnostic Module (NLVD) 10Y120M

Apparently, the "2016" does not relate to the model year of the suspect vehicle population, as mine is a 2015. I haven't had any issues requiring such repair, but am posting this for general awareness. If anyone paid for this repair, the documents include reimbursement procedures, which BMWNA should be able to share with any affected owners. They give 800-831-1117 for related questions.

As did I. Makes me feel slightly weary that I should "expect" this issue to affect my car eventually.

Got my letter also. ^Agree. 10 years /120000 miles warranty extension must mean a problem for every car eventually. Anybody know what a failure would involve?
A faulty diagnosis(CEL) or an actual problem?Or a failure to diagnose an actual problem?

Got the letter as well. What the hell does the Fuel Tank Leak Diagnostic module even do? Is it just a sensor?

I received my letter yesterday and I too, am puzzled by this.

So, a question: Are the emissions components covered by a longer warranty? And if so, that might explain why BMW added the Fuel Tank Leak Diagnostic Module to a longer warranty?

Interesting, I just recently got a code related to to fuel tank and Evap system and have been trying to figure it out. Do you mind posting the letter? I have a 2015 235 and have not received anything from BMW.

When the HPFP went bad on the N54 engines they extended the warranty to 10 years and 120K I believe but this was due to a class action lawsuit and a recall. Sounds like they are trying to avoid the class action lawsuit recall. Obviously they are having some problems because there was a form to fill out to get reimbursement if you already had an issue.

I got that letter too for my old 228 that just went back 2 weeks ago to be replaced by the new M240.

I did actually have a fuel pump fail in the 228 a little over a year ago, so I wondered if they had some N54 demons again (I went through 4 fuel pumps on an '08 335xi I had). No problems on the N55 in the 135i I had between the 335 and the 228 though. I hope the B58 proves as reliable as the N55.

Got this in the mail today as well, my car DID have a fuel pump recall though. But this seems like its something else maybe? The odd thing for me is, ever since I got my car back from fuel pump replacement, the fuel gauge has been weird.

When I first got it back, the range went from 50miles to 19 in the span of like 1min. When I tried filling the car up, it would only go up to about 5/7th of the way there.

Took it back in, they reset the cluster, and it would fill up all the way, but the range is really wonky, took it back a third time, they said the range seems to be just how it is. But I know its not right. Because it has been doing some weird crap, like it goes from 49miles range to 19 in like a 1/4mile, then it got stuck at 19 miles for the next 20 miles, then jumped up to 39 out of the blue.

They said unless the fuel gauge itself moves that it is behaving ok. Blah.
