Who is responsible for tags at lease end?
I just got my tag renewal notice in the mail. It seems like I shouldn't have to fork over the nearly $300 for year of tags when I won't be driving the car. I am sure many of you encountered this - what did you do?
thanks PS- I will be turning this car in and going without a car until my M2 is delivered... so dumping the car on a dealership as part of a trade-in isn't going to happen. I assume, but have not yet confirmed, that I will just drive it to the dealer on the last day of the lease? |

There is nothing you can do! If you live in a state that doesn't prorate the registration, you are plum out of luck. You need to check your state DMV to find out how it works locally.

Like others have stated, check with your state. What you might be able to do is just transfer the same tags to the new car.

The lease end usually coincides with the expiration date (unless you have a 39 month lease) so you can just turn in the car.
