Bridge stones

Hi all,
I needed to replace the front rubber after 32.5k miles, so despite what most of the people on here would advise, I went like for like and replaced with the S001s as I've been perfectly happy with them.

I was chatting with the mobile kwik-fit fitter and he said that he has a fair bit of experience with these. He mentioned that the earlier versions were so firm in the sidewalls that they would quite often tear when on the tyre removing kit, leaving a bit of a mess to take off the rim. He said the latest versions are a lot more compliant/soft and no such problems to install etc...
This probably explains some of the poor reputation of these tyres - historical data...

Incidentally, i did mention to him before he started work that I was extremely OCD with my car/alloys, so expected them to be returned in exactly the same mint condition as before he started. I also said I'd slip him a tenner if that was the case. Fair play to him, he took his time and did a great job! Price was just about as good as anywhere and I needed them doing ASAP as the outside edges were, well gone......

I would never let any of the cretins that work in Kwikfit touch my car let alone take advice from them

You shouldn't have to bribe them either ffs not to damage your property.

My 330d also has the S001's and my previous M135i had the fabled MPSS...

For what it's worth, I also think the Bridgestone's get unfair stick. In the cold/damp conditions (Scotland 90% of the time) they are comparable, if not better, than the much loved MPSS.

I've been happy with them so far, and would fit them again if they were cheaper than an equivalent like the F1 Assy2 or P Zero.

No doubt I'll be told I'm not trying hard enough, but will state that my experience is fast road driving (i.e. not 10/10ths) and in perfect conditions the MPSS will be the quicker tyre.

I've seen how tyres are often crow barred off rims, and there is always the chance for some minor cosmetic damage.

The issue with the polished 403's is that if the fitter did damage them, they would offer a repair job, which is 1) a pain the ass to sort out, and 2) the only shot at re-finishing these alloys you get. Apparently, they won't take a second "cut"... For the sake of a tenner, I was more than happy to see him being extra careful, and this guy seemed a straight up bloke to me. In fact he is currently on the look out for a 2-3 year old 335d hearse so he can't be all that bad!

Changed from BS to GY Eagle F1. Better in all respects. Will not have BS again.

I got my F32 in Dec and that came with S001's and between the suspension changes and the tyres, it's a massive improvement compared to my old E90 with Potenza 050A tyres.
So in terms of comfort etc, I'm pleased with these tyres (so far, will be watching as the tread deteriorates).

I did experience a brief "change of pants" moment when I had it in sport mode and pulled out to overtake someone and the rear end suddenly wobbled momentarily, so I'm not sure whether this is something this tyre is well known for or whether I was just unlucky and hit an oil patch or something?

Just coming up to 8000 miles now on the Bridgestones and no issues. Had Goodyears on the 435d and these feel every bit as good. In fact, the Bridgestones seem to bang less over potholes but that is probably more to do with the X-Drive v S drive suspension to be fair.

I would have them again that's for sure

Ditto happy with mine.

34k miles, still got over 3mm so they'll be well within the limit when I VT at the end of the month.

It's been said many times before but F3x plus S001s is way different from E9x plus RE050s.

I cannot berate Bridgestone enough. A helpless tyre. Try the Goodyear or Michellin.
