Driving to the Pyrenees

I am heading down to the Pyrenees in the summer (August). I going to be the support driver for some mates who are cycling C2C, the length of the Pyrenees. I am taking my bike too, in order to have a stab at some of the climbs myself and am considering a roof box to go on my 435D Xdrive. Does anyone have any recommendations? Also, am I likely to need snow chains (no winter tyres) at that time of the year? If so, all four, or just a pair for the rear?

Not too sure about the roof box but having walked those mountains that time of year (many years ago) you will not need snow chains or winter tyres.

Many thanks. I heard that it is a requirement to carry them, but this was only hearsay.

No need for snow chains nor winter tyres to enjoy Aspin and other Pyrenées cols with your 435D in summer. Everything is dry and hot.
But you may want a rooftop cargo. I'm currently looking for one of them for the same destination

When i say you will not need them ( I meant physically due to road conditions) I am not too sure what the law is, so I would check.

I really wouldn't be putting chains in during August and certainly not winter tyres. The road signs stay up all year because why would they take them down. It is not a legal requirement in August.

Just thinking about a roof box for my upcoming 4 GC, but really want one that looks sporty, not big and chunky.

Happy with less capacity, as a couple of big bags out the way will free up enough boot space.

Been looking at the Thule Dynamic, but it's pricey, £625. Volvo do the same Thule Dynamic branded with Volvo on it, but for £450. Might buy that and ignore the logo clash.

Anyone any other suggestions for a sleek looking roof box?

Definately up for that, although a mate has said he has one knocking about.....
I have been looking on eBay too, they are a lot cheaper secondhand, including some rather fetching gloss black sleek as you like designs......

I am driving down alone, so I do anticipate dropping the back seats and putting my carbon beauty inside the car......
