Coding vs connected drive services (RTTI)

Apologise if this has been asked before (or should be in the coding section).

Basically my connected drive runs out next week, looking at £35 for BMW Online and £40 for RTTI, not bothers about concierge.

Am I right in thinking that RTTI can be enabled via coding and that online can be set to use your mobile (if connected)?

If so how simple is this to do e.g. if it's just flipping a few options then I'll buy the cable and do it myself or is it more involved?

Thanks!

I've been trying to do this but haven't got it working via the mobile yet
I've not seen any posts which explain how its done only ones which comment
that it is possible.

Ive read somewhere that you need to turn off data from the sim in the car to be able to tether to the phone. I havent tried it though as I still have two years left on all my online stuff. I also have only seen RTTI be coded in the old CIC not NBT.

Ah I'm NBT so probably can't do it, thanks for the info!

I tried to do it with my CIC based ProNav and was not successful

Quite a few posts around on various forums but no definitive list of what needs coding

If anyone has done this on CIC I'd be interested to know what had to be done

Just to clarify - have you been quoted £40 per year for RTTI, and can you take just this by itself or do you need to have BMW Online in order to get it?

I would happily pay £40pa to continue RTTI sub, but thought it cost £120

that's what's its saying on www.bmw-connecteddrive.co.uk

so far I've had a good experience with RTTI (I know some people hate it) so will probably just pay the £40 for 12 months.

When it is busy just turn off onto a B road and get stuck at the end of a 6 mile tailback that is not shown on your map, then you'll feel like you have RTTI.

RTTI is £40 on my connected drive as its up this month.

Interesting the Sat Nav map updates are only £60 for 2 years.

Really £40 for the year. I just had the 6 or 12 month option a month ago and went with the 6 month at £70 or thereabouts.

It's seems like a number of people have tried but not succeeded. Maybe Vorph can enlighten us?

Not sure what this offers, it says a prerequisite is an active ConnectedDrive service

What people really want to do is to be able to access the online services via a mobile using the phone's 3/4G connection rather than the car's SIM

Car SIM is active for every BMW which has active teleservices via the Combox Telematics, so what is wrong with the Car SIM?

You need to pay for services when you use the cars SIM. So if you tethered data from your mobile and made the appropriate coding changes you could have access to online services without a hefty subscription fee.

There is a way to code RTTI into any NBT BMW. I found a russian website, where all steps are explained.

You need e-Sys and a VIN which does support RTTI. Also you need to setup the SALAPA-Element in e-Sys.

Here is the original website. I used Google Translate to understand it:
