Rust marks coming out from alloy wheel centre

After driving in the wet I get rush marks coming from the centre of the alloy.

Any ideas/advice? Car is only 3 months old, been doing it since new.

Crappy BMW rusty hubs - they come as standard on all models.

Rust from your hubs, take wheels off clean up the hub and apply some copper slip grease around the hub refit wheels, won't have a problem anymore and will aid removal of wheels in the future.

Virtually no manufacturers paint their hubs as standard.

Mine does this too with the 442Ms. Have flagged it to the dealer twice - they've simply taken off the wheel and cleaned it up. Don't imagine that will actually cure it though.

Bit of copper grease on the hub spigot helps no end.

Either way rust coming from hub or disc top hat but I have the M sport brakes which has an alloy cover as a top hat and I had the same rusting marks on 442 alloys, once greased no further problem.

When you wash your car, remove the centre caps and dry out the hubs. Or get a blower and blast them dry! None of my cars has ever done that, as I always dry them out...!

Will also aid alloy wheel life too and the dreaded centre lacquer peel...

Do you use a pressure washer to clean your wheels?

I use Optimoly, it was recommended for the threads on Porsche wheel bolts and I've used it ever since, it prevents the wheel sticking to the hub face too and prevents corrosion on the spigot

It's a known issue.

Had it on my previous and current f30.

Took it back to dealers both times and they rust proofed and greased the end of the internal hubs - never happened again

Funnily enough was on the loaner I had whilst getting mine done.

I had this on my rear wheels 442's after a few weeks of owning from new. They weren't as bad as yours though.

BMW photographed the hubs and asked for authorisation to fix. They were only authorsed to remove rhe wheels and grease the rear hubs.

However, I haven't had anything since and it's been over 12 months now.

My dad has an Audi Q3 that had silver painted hubs from new. It is less than a year old with 2,500 miles and the rust has come through the paint and looks terrible. It's down to the cast iron material of the disc/hub that just rusts. BMW doesn't look as bad as there is an alloy hub/spacer behind the wheel where as Audi just have one lump of cast iron that is the disc and hub.

BMW used to fit plastic caps on the hubs to stop this but have stopped in the last 12 months (probably cost cutting)

Order 4 of these (part number 33406864028),
Clean out the hub centres and grease. Fit plastic caps and it will never happen again

Loose wheel caps can also move around just enough to break the lacquer on the outside. Worth checking the depths.
