Are these LED headlights adaptive?

Hi

Can someone advise if these headlights are adaptive LEDs? I know they are LED but are they adaptive?

I was looking through my spec using my VIN before I collect my car next week. I don't see anything that mentions adaptive LED, although those were meant to be part of the spec.

Disaster, I think they're normal LED. From searching online the adaptive ones actually say 'BMW Adaptive LED' whereas theses ones just say 'BMW LED'

Is it easy for the dealer to switch these over for me as they should have been adaptive?

Look at the left stalk on the steering wheel column - the 'button' on the end of the stalk - the button that you use to cycle through the trip computer functions.

If it is one button then you do NOT have adaptive lights

If it is split into 2 buttons then you DO have adaptive lights - the top button activates the adaptive lights, the bottom part is for the trip computer functions.

Yes that's what I used to think, too. I discovered that if your car has high beam assist only you will get the two buttons.

PS I hope you're right I'm wrong! It does have the two buttons.

I just had a look at my car. It says 'BMW Adaptive LED' on them, but it looks like your top photo shows 'BMW LED'. I'm looking at your photo on my phone though so may be wrong.

Have you been out at night with the bottom button pressed on the left stalk?

You would very quickly know if they were adaptive as the light pattern changes all over the place rather than just dip between main and high

having adaptive or not, has nothing to do with the stalk though as mentioned above! that's only for HBA and not adaptive lights!

To see if they are adaptive at night, you just need to switch the lights on and turn the steering wheel. The lights will track the movement.
High beam assist is operated by the button on the stalk.

Not easy at all and very expensive. I'd be surprised if a dealer would do the work and parts alone are likely to come in somewhere north of £2000 and possibly somewhat more.

Just get them to order another car.

Similar thing happened to my Volvo about 5 years ago. They messed up and couldn't retrofit the missing options so I made them order it again.

My adaptive LED's only has BMW LED on the side, and not adaptive.
Easiest way is drive at night and see if the lights illuminate either side of the car in front, while keeping the car in a dark tunnel.
Hope that helps?

The ones you posted are not adaptive LEDS.

Two easy way to figure this out:

1. Looking at the divider in the headlights themselves. If its in the center, then they're adaptive LEDS; if the divider is not centered and closer to the top like the pictures you posted then they're not adaptive LEDS.

2. Look at the side of the LED headlights themselves; if they're adaptive then it will say "BMW adaptive LED", if not it will only say "BMW LED"

Call your SA, he/she should be able to tell you whether or not you have adaptive LEDS. Based on the specs you posted it doesn't appear that you have adaptive LEDS... That said, adaptive LEDS aren't that impressive; while they do provide a little more light during corning; but it shouldn't be a deal breaker... Not even worth a retrofit consideration in my opinion.

But if you have paid for adaptive, I would expect adaptive

If it's not on the spec, it won't be charged.

Isn't the onus on the buyer to check and double check that the spec is correct?
I do - very carefully line by line, twice!

Depends on how honest the dealer is. If they're honest, the Sales Admin will spot a difference between the consignment note cost (cost to dealer from BMW) and the expected cost on the SA3 (customer order). Having said that, the dealer should have phoned and done a complete spec check before ordering the car.

True
And my dealer sat me down and made me go through it with him prior to order sign off.
