Front pads
I decided today to fit my nightbreaker bulbs as the weather was pretty gppd today.
After struggling to see into the hole in the wheelarch I decided to take the wheels off for better access. Firstly the wheels didnt want to come off, after a bit of kicking they let go but seems clear they haven't been removed recently despite what the service history might suggest. Put some copper slip on the wheels so hopefully wont stick again However I looked at the front pads and they seemed pretty low, perhaps 4mm. No warning on dash and idrive says 10000 miles left. I think Ill be happier changing them soon, but how low do they need to wear before a warning gets triggered ? Thinking I'll do a oil / oil filter front pad change shortly even though idrive says not due - not sure I trust all this condition based servicing |

I think the sensor triggers at around 3mm, which is really low tbh.
I changed my front pads and discs yesterday, and although the wear sensor hadn't even started to wear, I couldn't even remove the spring clip from the pads as they were so close together! |

Mine were like that, the idrive tries to estimate it but once the sensor trips it'll suddenly go down to amber and a couple of thousand left.
@teaston how many miles have you done you've not had the car long? |

Why I ask is the original pads on my car were very noisy & squeaked at low speeds (common issue as seen on this forum). I returned the car to BWM & in the end they fitted new pads all round. They worked without issue but now the squeak is back & I have only covered 1000 miles on the new pads + the amount of dust that created is not good with black wheels. |

I think the main cause of the squealing is the aluminium hats on the M Sport discs not damping vibrations like one piece iron discs do. My new discs are one piece so I'll find out soon if they squeal or not. |

Just looking at genuine BMW pads which seem to be over a hundred quid
Other makes available from ECP / carparts4less less than half the price I always used Pagid on my old E39 and had no issues Is there any reason NOT to use BMW pads given the price ? And Textar and Pagid seem a similar price, anyone have a view on which is better ? |

"Vehicles without M-Sport package" for those pads. I have blue M-Sport brakes so put my reg. no. into that site. It came up with a load of brake pads but all still said "Vehicles without M-Sport package". Don't really get it. |

Mine were down to 4mm and were yet to trigger the sensor. The I drive started to report 2000 miles but braking was so dangerous - it was like braking in severe wet conditions so I had them changed. Go by a visual inspection and what you feel comfortable with. No doubt there is someone out there with 3mm as they think there is life in the pad but it is not worth the risk to self or others.
