Z4 M Wheels - Performance Aspect

I'm looking to replace my stock wheels and tires as I can no longer stand the Conti's on there, and if I am replacing tires I may as well do everything . I've been debating on which way to approach the situation and I have a few questions that have probably been answered before, but I am failing at the search.

First, I would prefer to go with a non-staggered setup, so I assume I will need spacers in the back, correct?

I live in Michigan where it's now pothole season, and I am concerned about 19" wheels surviving very long. On the other hand, I like the look of very few wheels, and the M6 replicas certainly pique my fancy, but an 18" rep. looks to only come in 8" width, which means a fairly narrow tire. Is this advisable?

Assuming 8" rims in back are too narrow, would it be crazy to run an 18"x8" wheel up front and a 19"x8.5" in back? Or should I just give up and run 19x8.5 all the way around?

Why do you not want a staggered setup? Just curious.

Regarding wheel size, I am having same dilemma with 18s vs 19s b/c of potholes here in Chicago.

A standard (non-staggered) setup should handle more neutrally, allowing oversteer on turn-in as the rear wheels can slip easier. It would be better for hard tracking and performance driving.

I don't think 8" wide rims are "small" by any means. Just because some people go super wide doesn't mean thats the optimal setup.

I did find some 18x8.5 M6 reps by a major knockoff company (not Miro), but if I were you I'd stick to reps only by known good companies (like Miro and Velocity Motoring, who doesn't offer an m6 style)

I agree that an 8" rim is not narrow, but I am also concerned about delivery of power to the ground. Is a 225/235 tire going to offer me enough traction back there, or will I leave trails of rubber at every light?

235/245 should be plenty good, with a good tire! remember selection makes a big difference too.

With my current 255 pilot sports, I can't even take off the line without spinning out in the rain, but on dry pavement look out! And thats "just" in my "small" 3.0

Oversteer is easy on this car (M coupe/roadster) with a staggered setup. If anything, it is a little tail happy with a staggered stock setup. I am personally going to buy some 275 rear/245 front setup wheels to improve my handling when I buy tires next.

Caveat- I am coming from a high powered AWD setup (race prepped) though so my benchmark about grip is probably in a different place.

little oversteering or understeering can be dialed out by playing with the the amount of air in your tires.

theoretically non-staggered setup should introduce more oversteering since the front would have a lot more grip. having too much grip in the front isn't always a good thing. Non-staggered setup would have this "snap oversteering" behavior, which really isn't what you want either. There is a reason 95% of sport cars have staggered setup.

I got my new F1 Asymmetrics 235/40-18 front and 265/40-18 rear, haven't mount them yet. would love to go 245/40-18 & 275/35-18 but afraid may rub.

FWIW....
I'm running 245 on 8.5" ET35 & 275 on 9.5" ET22 with no rubbing issues.

It's tail happy when you are on the gas too much, but otherwise it's like trying to steer a train in the corners.

Like I said- it is tail happy Seriously, it understeers less than my 2 previous all wheel drive cars so I guess I am coming from a different reference point.
