Europe Car Hire

Recall a few posts a while back. Can anyone recall or know any good way to rend a 340i /335i or a m3/m4 in Stuttgart.

Planning a large road trip Germany / Austira / Italy / Switzerland.

As have two smaller members of family to account for thinking of flying out and getting a car to save couple of days to drive there.

We tend to use Sixt for car hire in Germany.

As with most airports there is a Sixt hire place at airport.

It's worth checking Stuttgart airport to see what hire companies are there.

It does vary on car selection at times, not sure if they change cars for the winter months.

Thanks was thinking sixt as well. Biggest pain is their website never correctly shows the fleet just estimation. Fell with this in summer in Poland. Website and email replies told me no X5 or XC90 available so settled for a Alhambra to get 7 seats only to find out when I got there could have booke x5 Might give them a call and see want be needed till later next year

Not sure what Sixt in Germany are like but I'd stay clear of Thrifty at Stuttgart airport. During the summer I hired a Mondeo sized car from them, and turned up at their desk after getting of the flight to be offered the keys to a Fiat Multipla. After trying to work out what was German for f**k off, I was eventually offered a discounted 'upgrade' to a Mazda 6. I explained to him that a Mazda 6 was a Mondeo sized car to which his reply was 'the Mazda has sat nav'.

Yeah it's worth booking, also remember something like an M3 is actually cheap to hire compared to some other stuff.

It can also work out cheaper at times doing a pick up drop off and pick up again.

It's fuel that bites lol

Edit: not Stuttgart, however gives you an idea on pricing available.

That is a decent price for a m4 I paid that for 2 weeks hire of a Alhambra in Poland.

Other option is to take the 335i across the river and drive down. The plan is to do a big loop of Sough Germany, switzerland, Austria. Doing the big names roads, sites and museums (Munich, Stugggard, Insburck, Davos, Zurich ) about 2000K if you dont count drive from here. So bit of maths will be needed I think which works out best. Just drive or drive and hire.

Fuel is not really into equation as to the loop part of drive as cant see M4 drinking lot more than my 335i want be hooning it too much as will have kids on board. But a convertibel through the alps is appealing. Will have to pack light

Thanks for the info

I think that I recall rentals being available directly from BMW in Stuttgart but a quick web search did not find it. Anyone know more?

If you are planning on doing it at this time of year, bear in mind that many European countries such as those mentioned require compulsory winter tyres fitted when there is icy conditions. Summer tyres and snow chains is not enough
