Ignition Coil Top Broke

Hey guys. So last night I was gonna change my plugs and got the three front ignition coils (passenger side) out easily but I was trying to get the furthest one and I guess I used to much leverage and the top part (the park we use to hook our tools on that has the bmw symbol on it) broke.... Now I'm stuck and don't want to take it to the dealer or shop to pay 300. Any suggestions on how to remove it? Maybe just used a flat head and pull on it till it pops out since I need a new one anyways?

PS: was using the coil puller tool from amazon "m division" on the top.

Same thing happened to me, but i was lucky and broke first coil on the passenger side. Was able to remove it easily with two flat screwdrivers. But yours is in the worst spot

I happened to use a spare USB charging cable (since that's pretty common) and achieved the same result. Came out quite easy, especially the ones by the firewall. Good luck!

I've broken one of mine as well, same cylinder, same exact way as you. Can't remember how I got mine out but in addition to the technique above wrapping a wire coat hanger around whatever ridge is left and using the bulk of it as a handle works too.

When you do get it out I would replace the coil pack. I still have to do mine but I moved it to the front passenger side to make it easier to get out next time.

I cracked part of one, but it was in a noncritical area. If so, move it to the front and run it until you replace all coils due to age or mileage.

Take your time...try to wiggle it as best as you can while pulling up with something wrapped around the bottom. Find something not too thin, so it spreads the load as best as you can.

Once you get it out, move the two rear to the front....just in case. You should also be able to glue and re-use. Good luck!!

Happened to me too. I wrapped a coat hangar around the base and pulled it right out. Moved it to the front for easier access next time.

Yep, this. This happened to me for on of them, but happened to have a spare so I swapped it out. Now you have a special custom lightweight racing coil so put it in the front to take weight off the nose
