6mt swap
Has anyone had experience with the 6at to 6mt swap on a 335? Wondering what a price might be to have it done. Looked at the DIY guides and it didn't look terribly hard but certainly not easy.

Look up the prices of the parts from a parts list (reference a DIY thread) + that to whatever quotes your local shops give you = your answer. Evan |

Not hating on anyone who has ever done this, you can do what you want to your own cars, but doesn't it make more sense to just go buy a 6 speed car? They aren't even that expensive now.

^^+1 for MNC; IIRC their E30 M3 with an N54 single turbo has a complete N54 harness wired into it (along with the 6MT). Also, you can sell a complete 6AT and cover most of the costs for a 6MT swap, but here's a really in-depth DIY for the swap.

Depending on how patient you are. In my area a 6 speed car would be really hard to find and by the time you sell yours or trade it in, buy the new one and register it and pay taxes you may as well keep what you have and do try work on that swap. Then you can feel good about DIY.

Yes initially thinking that selling your AT car and buying a Manual version WOULD make sense.. But not for those who have owned their AT cars for a long time. Having performed lots of proper maintenance and took very good care of their 335i. So why would you want to sell your well maintained car for something possibly not maintained and taken AS GOOD of care? All just for a 6spd manual? Not worth it in my case. That is actually a bigger risk than doing the swap as you never know.. could end up with a lemon. Especially if you have tons of mods and personal touches done to the vehicle. Having to uninstall all of them and put it back to stock to sell so you don't take as much of a loss compared to selling it as is, is a lot more work than performing the manual swap. I did my manual swap. It was easy. Finding parts weren't so hard and they were quite cheap. Selling the AT parts takes time, but in the end once you do, you basically cover your costs for the manual parts.

6MT versions of these cars are hard to find.
If you shop around on eBay and junkyards you can do the swap for under $2000 (not including labor or upgraded clutch).

I used to be of this belief, but with 335s, especially, I think the cheapest car to own is the one you already have. Unless you get especially fortunate to find one with the options/mods/maintenance you want, I could see justifying a 6 speed swap.
