Best / Recommended MT oil

Hi guy,

I just buy this babe last month

Car got around 91 000 Kilo (not Mile)

But I dont think the transmission oil was done

So I was asking what kind of oil did you guy recommend for my 6 MT

I was thinking going with the normal oil from Dealer ship

But my previous car was an Evo 9 MR and I alway use to put redline or royal purple.

So Let me know what you think I should put in my babe

My engine is an N54 2010 with Xdrive If that can help!

Generally preferred by e90 posters is Royal Purple Synchromax, Redline D4 or D6 ATF.
I am about to flush with Royal Purple in a few hours here, hoping it smooths up my shifting. I have 160,000 km so probably overdue by now.

Beautiful color. Both rides. When you are changing the fluid you might consider changing the tranny mounts. 55 bucks and 30 more minutes.

Yeah I read that somewhere too. And pretty sure the bushing are used too cuz I got some knocking when I push the car and shift quick

Do you got the part number? Or any visual photos of the part?

Redline MTL. Out of all the fluids I have tried, still my favorite.

You live in CA too, so I'm assuming the cold weather hasn't bothered you much when it comes to shifting?

I don't drive this car in the winter. I do find below freezing it is a little thick.

I use Redline MT-90. Feels great. It doesn't really get cold in Florida, so I don't have to worry too much about the fluid being too thick/cold before the car warms up. If you live somewhere it gets cold, I'd probably choose MTL.

Motul is $$ but I've never heard a bad thing about their oils. Redline makes great oils too, which one you pick can vary (some people say MTL, Redline themselves says there are other options). You can't go wrong with either one.

See Redline's BMW article for more info: https://www.redlineoil.com/news_article.aspx?id=13

It's a bit confusing, so feel free to send them an email too. I've used MTL in my E92 for tracking but I'm in a very mild climate and the car doesn't see winter driving.

Have never tried Motul trans fluid. I exclusively use Motul engine oils however. I just prefer Redline for all my gearbox oils. For my winter E90 I used D4 in the gearbox.

Yea I just switched to the 8100 xclean and like it a lot is why I ask. Will be changing out mt and diff fluid sometime soon. Looks like redline recommends the D4 atf for us, hmm. That article didn't mention the mtl though, haven't researched extensively yet..

That what I put in my e92 N54 2010. I'm in Canada Québec and Its winter atm, thick when cold but still not that bad. The poor point is around-37 degree Celcius. Redline recommend D6 atf for really cold area cuz the poor point is- 57 degree. So if you live in alaska or really cold area go atf, otherwise Mtl is better at hot température.

Think I'll be trying the D4 atf for use in Nevada. Not sure when I'll get around to changing, try in the next month

Edit: going with d6

I use redline D6 year round. 60k miles so far no issues. I have 172k miles. First 112k miles on the factory fluid. Been running e30-e40 continuously for 100k miles now.

Redline D6 is the closest formulation to the OEM fluid. D4 is far thicker.

People love to reinvent the wheel when it comes fo these cars for some reason.
Just like the battery. "My oem battery just died after lasting 8-10 years, which battery should I get?".

I'm running brand new oem fluid. gettting misshifts in the higher gears shifting slowly, ocassionally I'll need to press the clutch back down as soon as i start lifting it as it hasn't gone in gear. kinda gotten used to it now. I also get the occasional 1-2 crunch. hoping redline mtl sorts it all out.

but yea generally i agree if it aint broke don't try fix it.
