BMW 335i Stock... SMG shift question

Hello Everyone,

I have a rather odd question.

My e90 335i is completely stock. AT trans and sport package. (78000 miles)

I recently (3-4k miles ago) changed the trans fluid and filter as the trans was shifting a little rough. I made sure I verified the correct amount of fluid was used (twice)... once myself and another at an INDY.

Now, after the trans gets up to operating temp, it shifts about the same roughness as before. It is not smooth on cold start (normal) but once temps and oil starts flowing (about 10 min into drive) the transmission shifts like butter. It is awesome. Once operating temp is achieved, it starts shifting rough/hesitating again.

Any thoughts?

I have thought that there could be a block in the trans cooler, could be oil fluid level (still possible), etc.

I used the OE ZF branded transmission fluid. I didn't use some off the shelf fluid (Mobil1, Shell, Royal Purple, etc.)

Since it was running rough prior to the new fluid, try some royal purple instead.

It's probably the SMG hydraulic pump. They fail a lot.

But a better question is how did you get the SMG into a 335i, very impressive sir.
