Can those with blackline lights please check something for me
A fellow member has told me he got his blacklines and noticed his indicator bulb is soldered to the circuit on both his lights Can the rest of you check if there is a big blob of solder connecting their indicator bulbs to the power circuit Thanks

No, it looks like they actually made a mistake in production with the light carriers ( yes, checked they are the proper blackline part number ones )
I think the manufacturer accidently made the bulb socket for the normal clear P21W lights with the prongs directly opposte each other, instead of for the amber/silver amber PY21W bulbs with their prongs slighly offset. You can apparently easily remove the bulb by heating the solder and then just putting a blob of solder on for a new one Im wondering if this is why there is a delay in Blacklines, with them fixing this mistake.

fleet does soooo much for everyone here, you guys shouldnt hesitate when he says please. seriously. if you have black lines drop what you are doing, and walk out to your car. if he says it will only take a few seconds, it will only take a few seconds.
we all know you dont have anything better to do anyway. Go.

Just got home and I pulled the bulb holder out and took a picture. It seems mine looks just like your friend's. I wonder what the deal is?
I hope this helps.

Thanks all
Atleast we know the bulb wont just fall out For interest, the production date is apparently stamped into the plastic at the bottom ( edge 90 degrees from the end with 2 bulbs ) It should look something like 20-10-05, meaning it was assembled 20 October 2005

E90Fleet - did you manage to find any further information regarding the bulb fitment? Was it only the initial production batch (October?) that had the bulbs soldered?

Each one ive heard about is like this
Its no problem, you would just need a soldering iron to change the indicator bulb. But they are extra longlife bulbs, so it woud be a long time before one would need to change them.

The PY21W bulbs have slightly offset pins, so I think they modified the holders to take the offset pins and then soldored them to make shure they are secure. Now it depends how many holders were made before they could change the design as to when you will get blacklines without solder. As posted above some guys recently got blacklines in Germany and they still have the solder. Maybe they wont even change it. I have no idea when anybody will get stock. last I asked here the system said there were massive backorders in Germany and the system would accept any orders from us untill stock was available. German dealers did seem to get stock 2 or so weeks ago, so maybe there are some shipments on their way across the world. As for the pic, Im in the top one, not the one you blew up, and there is actually a better one of me hidden on the forum

Thanks Fleet. I was discussing this with a friend who had reached the same conclusion, although apparently, amber/silver bulbs can be obtained with normal pin configuration. A couple of sets of blacklines are for sale on a German Ebay site which Google translates as "For the turn signals Silverline pears are integrated (see flashing silver out however orange)". By the term integrated, I guess it means soldered, but I'm going to order a set for my Le Mans Blue 330D which should be here shortly. Are you going for Blacklines on your new 325? |
