Big thanks to the forum
To some it may not seem like much, but I just successfully fired up my car after rebuilding the throttle actuators (Odometer Gears) and replacing the plugs. There's no way I would have taken this on without your help.
So far, so good, and feel compelled to express my thanks to all who have contributed to this forum. With the help of members who have taken the time to write detailed how-to processes (you know who you are), I was able to stretch my skills. Not only did this save a lot of money and time, but it really made me appreciate being a part of this group of enthusiasts. You guys rock. |

Internet forums are the single most powerful tool in my garage (other than my phone and credit card). If I had a personal assistant I would ask him or her to print off all the DIY threads and put them in a binder for me just in case...

Agreed though. The forums have been a huge help in the life of many a DIY'er. To a certain extent, youtube has too.

It's the collective community and informational resources that keep me wanting to give back.
PRO TIP: Upload images as attachments so they will not become broken links ten years from now when someone wants to do a rod bearing swap. |

I keep the entire internet in the garage. Remember the end of Men in Black, where they zoom out and it turns out the universe is actually just a marble in some alien kids' game? It's like that, except you're all in my toolbox next to those crappy Sears screwdrivers with the clear resin handles that start to stink after a few years.

I second the thanks to the forum! I had the same experience with the throttle actuators and I never would have know to do it (preventatively) or have the confidence to try without all the discussions on here. Also with the help of the this forum, I went through the whole car and changed all the fluids, filters, and spark plugs myself and a faulty ignition coil, a leaky washer pump. Definitely gave me some pride in ownership and I often brag a little to others about the M3's strength of internet community being one of the many benefits of ownership. I know I looked around for such a community for my Toyota Tundra and didn't find anything similar. I have thought about adding a 911 to the garage one day and once again I couldn't find a community as vibrant as M3's for that either. Although, I might just need to look harder
