My 335i has multiple personalities, why?

My 2011 335i 6AT xdrive seems to have multiple personalities. I'm not sure if it's the tune (Cobb with a PTF custom tune) or the car, or some setting I'm unaware of.

One day I will get in it and it will feel very peppy. The throttle will be very sensitive to input, and the transmission will be very eager to downshift. This is in Drive (not sport). Then the next day, it will be very sluggish or lazy. The throttle will take more travel to get the same amount of power, and the transmission is reluctant to downshift.

It doesn't seem to follow any pattern either. It seems like most of the time it is in lazy mode, then every few days I'll get a trip in peppy mode. I need to start taking a log of when it decides to put itself in peppy mode.

Anyone have any idea what could cause this? I'd love to be able to control it and have a consistent throttle and transmission behavior.

Did you change the spark plugs after the tune?

This is not my area of expertise, but I read something about the need to change them. Perhaps that's the reason for the sluggish ride?

I've heard mixed reviews about a resetting throttle adaptations and multiple ways to supposedly do it. Has anyone ever proved it works, or is it just internet folklore? I suppose it can't hurt to try it.

I detected a slight change in the behavior when I did that reset procedure, but it didn't get any better.

I just uninstalled the Cobb with protuning freaks tune and put the stock tune back and the car drives much better, although with a lot less power. Shift points are more smooth and predictable, idle is MUCH smoother and the car is much more predictable all around. It seems as though the pro tuning freaks tune confuses the transmission. I've reached out to them to see if there is a way they can smooth it out.

Don't fall for the one size fits all "German Car Therapists." They try to act like they can analyze all German cars. Stuttgart is over 230 km from Munich, I once did the therapy route with one from Sindlefingen. We were almost done with the session and the therapist goes, "oh, Ihr Auto ist aus Bayern ?" That's 200 Euro I'll never get back.

I have a similar problem OP, and from what I've read on how to fix it I agree with 007.
