Interior Question: Plane Tree v. Dark Poplar wood

Does anyone know if there is a difference between the trim known as "Plane Tree" and the more common trim offered in the U.S. known as "Dark Poplar Wood"?

From what I could find on google.com I think "Plane Tree" is closer to the LIGHT Poplar Wood Trim. I've seen Dark Poplar Wood Trim in person on the E92 328i I almost went with and it looks GREAT. I'm not a fan of wood trim at ALL but I really liked it. It was classy and luxurious but at the same time not OLD feeling. I cant really think of anything to compare it with; but, it's a close second to the more sportier options of brushed aluminum / black CF. From far away it almost just seems black, until you get up close then you'll see the intricacy of the grain. The BMWUSA builder photo of dark poplar is so far off from the real thing, its one of those things you have to see in person, the website makes it WAY too light.

There's a huge difference. Plane tree really does look kind of plane. Looks a bit more solid with some grain. Dark poplar looks a lot more marbled and wood-like.
