Darn brake sensor reset

So I foolishly ran down both front and rear brake sensors to the point where the system does not let me reset the warning even after changing the pads--happens easily when tracking the car.

I decided to just short the wires in the old sensors to allow it reset. Starting at the rear, I cut off the sensor head and tied the wires together, pretty sure that worked. However, the system does not budge, i.e. when I try the reset at the stalk it does not allow me to reset just as before.

Stumped now; I did actually buy new sensors but was hoping not to have to use them (plus the rear is a bitch to fit) while the car is seeing track duty..

Anyone who knows hoe to do this?

Yes, try disconnecting all the sensor wires and leave them off for 15 minutes. Then reconnect the shorted sensor wires. In other words, pretend you are changing to fresh sensors. Then go ahead and reset the service light using the standard technique posted elsewhere in this forum. This worked for me. It was bear to figure out!

Sounds good, but doesn't that require removing the rear wheel panel to get to the sensor plug there? I tried to avoid getting there...

It's not that big of a deal. 8mm and 10mm on four screws and you can get two hands in there.

If you can check pads manually, just snip the ends of the sensors and cap them together, then reset the mileage. Brake light will go away.
