Battery Help!
First post in awhile guys. Just picked up my 2010 335i last week. It's great to be back in a BMW after 4 years of not owning one! I had a question about my battery. I go to start it yesterday after it just sitting overnight and it doesn't start, no sounds nothing. I take the fob out and try again and it starts fine. I checked the battery and the date is 11 of 2009 so it's the original. Also my HALO lights are not coming on upon unlocking (yes it's on auto) and I know that's an early sign of a failing battery. Obviously I wasn't happy that a car I had for 3 days needed a new battery so I called the Toyota Dealership I bought it from and the actually offered to replace it for FREE. I am extremely grateful but I know these battery's have to be programmed and registered and I'm not sure if that's what they plan on doing. My question is, can a non BMW dealership even do the programming? Obviously I want a free battery but if they aren't willing to do it properly I don't want to screw up my electrical system. Any advise would be appreciated

More than likely not.
Unless they are taking the car to BMW dealership. Warn them it needs a correct battery and to be reporgrammed, they already agreed to cover it for you but they might have not known what it truly entails.

Most of the car dealerships I have dealt with that sell used bmw's source the repairs to the bmw dealership. They usually will not touch them, even oil changes. So, that being said, just ask them if they plan on sending it to Bmw for the battery replacement so it is done correct and not cause any damage to your car. It needs to have the correct battery and it needs to be programmed so it will charge properly. You can get apps, like carly for bmw or inpa and you can register it yourself if they put the battery in.

If they only offer you to replace the battery on site with no registration..... cause they might try to convince you that you dont need..... and believe me it is required ... then let them replace the battery and go to a german specialized handy shop to get it registered ..... maybe for max $50.00 ....
